who makes a good, complete rebuild kit for a 17081205? i need the float, throttle shaft bushings, choke coil, idle tubes, everything. i want to do this right the first time out, but i can't find a good kit. anyone have a good source?

You could try JET Performance... they do killer rebuilds with the parts you mention (throttle shaft bushings, etc.), but I'm not sure they do a kit. www.jetchip.com

They do sell the bushing kit and a q-jet kit with all you need... scroll down the page a little.

Cliff Ruggles builds custom Q-jets and has written a very good book on custom tuning Q-jets. I have one of his custom 840's on my 455 and recommend him. Anyway, he uses and recommends rebuild kits from The Carburetor Shop.

very cool. i have one of ruggles books and i tried doing a search for the carburetor shop but it wouldn't give me the right one. thanks for the link. i'll call them and jet and see what i get. can i assume that the carb shop can source me the correct metering rods/jets and such for a modded engine? that's what i really like about jet's kit but it doesn't come with EVERYTHING. (i hate piecing things together, i ALWAYS forget something)
why does the jet bushing kit come with 16 bushings? i should only need 4 right? from what i've heard the bushings are a pretty much permanent fix. is that wrong?

well the carb shop is out. they don't carry kits for 1980's carb's due to emissions. oh well.
apparently cliff ruggles will be carrying rebuild kits soon though so i'll check with him about that, and of courese JET.

this is pretty cool... i sent cliff's an e-mail this morning and he got back to me already. once i got him my main air bleed size he was able to determine exactly what i needed, and he can supply me with a complete kit!

i talked to cliff today, a complete kit will be on the way soon! i'm sending him my secondary rods for them to modify. what's pretty cool is that i pulled the idle restrictions instead of the idle tube, and cliff is including screw in replacements for no extra charge.
if anyone else is looking at rebuilding a q-jet, i'd definately talk to him. obviously he knows his ****, and he's incredibly helpful.
thanks for the help and the links.

gotta love the goddamn post office. of course they just had to lose the check and my secondary rods that i sent to cliff. the worst thing is you can't even complain about it or get any compensation. then they just auction off everything that we paid for but they lost a year later. and they wonder why no one likes tham? at least they didn't lose the kit, there'd be blood.
