      AFR 227 eliminator

I have a set of AFR 227eliminator heads for a small block chev. I cant get the rockers to line up with the lifters with out hitting the head top side or the intake port. I have tried Yellow terra shaft rockers and a set of jessels neither have worked. Any Ideas?

Do you mean the pushrod or rocker itself?
I saw a set at our local shop being clearenced for pushrods.

The 227's need offset rockers although AFR says you can run them with regular ones. On speedtalk.com there's been some discussion.

The rocker arm does not line up so the push rod rubs the head. The rockers were design for the head. With the off set for .450 on the intake.

Are you running the offset lifters? I have the prev. generation 227's with Jesel's and offset lifters, it was close, a couple pushrods did touch and needed a bit more taken off the heads.

I have the same heads, and was told by both AFR and adperformance(where I got the heads) that a little 'massaging' with a rattail file is often necessary on the intake pushrod slots, most often at the bottom.

AFR says this on their site: "Some applications require shaft mount rockers or .050 offset rocker arms for durability and reliability of valve train components. Standard rockers can be used but the intake rocker arm will be at a slight angle and the roller tip will not be perfectly centered on the valve tip. Not recommended for street use, unless shaft mount rocker is used."

So your rocker arms may never sit correctly. Time to pony up the cash for shaft rockers.

Time to pony up I guess. Had to buy the T&D rockers with a roller tip since I will use them on the street and still had to do a tone of cutting in the head to have them fit. Cant say I would buy AFR heads of this size again. I can only hope for good numbers with this set of heads.

I haven't gotten my pushrods yet but my T&D set (using P/N's that AFR told me to use) bolted right up. Everyone I've talked to that used the T&D setup has made excellent power, and another guy from the Vette forums should report in today or tomorrow on his first drive with the new 427.
