Need suggestions for '55 Chevy wheels...

Don V did a real nice initial chop which is helping me visualize a '55 with a pro touring chassis (and a LS3 w/VVT). The next chop will add the American Graffiti black '55 style hood scoop, remove the hood emblem and the rear wheels will be moved outward a little more etc.

The car will have 2 sets of wheels and tires; one set of blackwalls and one set of wide whitewalls. For the 2nd set I'm having a tougher time figuring out what 17" wheel to run with the wide whites for that kustom look. Those are 'Radir's Don chopped in. I'm just looking for suggestions for a wide white tire/chrome wheel setup.

I have always liked the old Halibrand style wheels, polished or magneseum. Here is a link to stockton wheel. They have a lot of options, even 17 inch chrome steel wheels similar to what they used in American graffiti. Very cool project btw. Great idea keeping two sets of rolling stock for two different themes.

      Thanks Roger.

      I'm checking that sight out.

It should be interesting how the whole look of the vehicle will change by going from a wheel similar in style to the ones on say the II Much Nova, to what you see here. DonV is in the process of taking the wire spinners off and cleaning up the wheel area on these Radir's.

Intro wheels have a Radir look and come in larger diam.

      Nice looking idea.

Thanks Brian I checked Intro out.

For the blackwall set I'd go 18's but I think I'd loose the fairly wide whitewalls I want if I went 18's on that set.

If I read you right you're looking for wide whites in 17s? If so I think if you want that old school look this is as good as it gets. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...n%26safe%3Doff

Brizio's Car is one sweet ride. I really like the style and theme he went with. However, if Skip chimes in here, I think he is looking for a wider whitewall than those tires on Brizio's 55. I do think that that rim and tire combo is very tasteful on that gold car.

      Jv, Thanks.

Those are 18's from what I read, and the white stripes as wide as they could get. Great car though of course!

Roger, you correct. Proportionately I want something that is very similar to the chop above, even though the wheel probably is a 15" we get the idea.

I forgot to ask Don V what size wheel he was trying to approximate.

Yeah Skip, I might have made those a bit large. They look to be around 15's. I really like those wheels on that Gold '55 (Brizio's) that's featured on the Rod and custom website. Now that I see it, it reminds me of an old Black '55 Gasser model I built when I was a kid. The rims that is.

Here's some American Graffiti images of the black '55: Notice the back wheel well.

      A really cool scene:

I'll wait for more input... before throwing all this on and removing.
It is quicker for me to get the full list of items. instead of bits at a time. I know Skip... ideas, ideas, ideas!

      Thanks.

Are you looking for larger diam white walls or rims? Diamondback tire will turn just about any size tire into a whitewall at again any stripe width you wish. I have 20" redlines that they made for me.

Must be a modified Nomad qtr with the gas filler door in the same place as this Nomad's. I never noticed before that's what they used on that movie car.

First, the pic of the 55 above is a clone of the real AG 55 chevy second the original car used the stock wheelwells radiused and then had a lip put on them.Read all about the original twolane blackop/AG 55s here.

Brian, I thought 17"s would be the max rim size to give me that 'kustom' look for tires with enough sidewall plus enough room for a fairly wide white stripe.
