Weight Jacks & Shock Relocation G-Body

Does anyone have any pictures of relocated shocks (front) on a G-Body when using weight jacks. I have scoured the web (and here) for information and have come up empty. Any help would be appreciated.

I wanted to put the shock between the spindle and the spring pocket angled up through the UCA (SPC adjustables)...One quick look at the front suspension and you see that the spring pocket is in the way. So that has to go. Unfortunately, the spring pocket is also structural to the frame.

Circle track magazine had a pic of the shock mounted above the UCA mounted to a cage tube, but I didn't want to run a front cage.

So I ended up doing the speedway hidden adjuster, racing springs, and a stock shock location.

This allows for ride height adjustment, but unlike relocating the shock, you don't get:
a better motion ratio (from shock mounting closer to balljoint)
easy height adjustment (have to remove spring to adjust height)
better choice of shocks (using spherical joints as opposed to tbar/stud at the ends, the selection is basically unlimited)

Good luck with your search, I really hope someone has pics of a cut spring pocket with the shock mouted just inboard of the lower ball joint and basically directly above the weight jack up top. I just haven't ever found this picture...This is supposedly a common thing in circle track racing, but those guys don't really go on forums or post pictures. I asked Marcus at SC&C and he said it was a good idea, but didn't have any ideas on how to do it, and also was skeptical of the benefit to work ratio.

Jerome, yea I found both of those threads and was disappointed that there was no pictures. I've checked out a couple of circle track forums with no luck either. I have found some brackets for relocating the shocks on S-10s when they bag them, but I can't seem to find a picture. I believe they mount on the side of the frame. I am thinking of installing the weight jacks, set the ride height, assembling the front-end then find a place to mount the shocks using the shock mounts from Speedway or the S-10 mounts. I don't like the idea of tearing the front-end apart numerous times to get the ride height set, or to change it if needed. I'll let you know if I come up with anything. -Keith

Yes, that looks like the brackets I've seen. Do you think mounting the shock like that would be OK?

I would make my own if you are handy with that kind of stuff. The airide design will achieve basically the same effect as the stock shock location. Put two tabs near the balljoint to get that better motion ratio and use two tabs on the chassis-side mount too, so that you can use spherical ended shocks. Try to get the shock as vertical and and "straight" (vertical in side view) as possible. If you do all this, then your next big project is shock selection/tuning, cause you'll have nobody's experience to go on, you'll just have to try for yourself, or get nice adjustables. As long as the mount at the frame is strong and the welding on the LCA is good, then you should be fine.

Looks like that's the way I'm going to go. I don't know if you are familiar with M&R but check them out for springs and shocks, great used stuff and the shocks and springs are dyno'd if I'm not mistaken. Thanks for the help. I'll post pics when I get it all together.
