      Weber Carbs

I would like a bit of information on Weber Carbs. What are the benefits of them, what makes them better than regular carbs? They look pretty cool and I was wondering if I could get some info on them. Wikipedia didnt have too much on them.

      thanks

It was discussed here a while back: https://www.pro-touring.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2534
      Any other questions, just ask.

Cost is an issue, plus they don't flow enough air if you are shooting for above 550 hp. Torque is great with them.

FYI, I was perusing the car mags at Kroger the other day. IIRC someone was making a fuel injection set up that looked like Webers.

I am working on a multi-carb set-up for my BB Chevy project and have been considering doing a Weber set up. something like this:

      http://www.inglese.com/Products/univ_sc.asp

Intake choices to mate them up are Edelbrock, Weiand, and Offy.

Tired of see 700 muscle cars in one place, 99% of the with an Eddy Ait-Gap and an 800-something CFM carb. Even those FI look-alikes were on a dozen cars at the recent Good Guys show.

Seems the listed old post is missing a lot of photos and most of the mfgrs favor Ford.

I'd appreciate any info, links, sources, ideas for multi-carb set-ups, inc. Webers for my application.

      Thanks in advance!

Also there is a post on another site that has a lot of info on multi-carb set-ups vs. single 4 bbls. http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=230724

Those do look nice, something really unique. Has a lot of "WOW" factor w/the trumpets.
The good thing about those carbs, they are easy to rejet. That little cover w/the wing nut....remove it and the jets are right there. If you don't screw around, you could rejet all 4 sets in less than 15 minutes. No chance in spilling gas either.

The bad thing about those.....even though the 40s are a decent size, the venturis are small. So run the 45s. They could use more accelerator pump also, so bigger squirters might be needed.

I don't see anything wrong w/running those. I'm happy w/the ones that I have (though not on a car).

Those would work similar to having two four barrel carbs, the common plenum allows the individual cyls to share pulls on all the venturis maximizing air flow, but the main advantage of webers is individual runners, which that setup does not have, so torque output would be lower.

The down side of individual runners is, you need a huge bore size to pass enough air.

You need 8 jets every time you want to change size, I think 1 jet costs around $8.00

Each weber carb has the following changeable parts:

      Main Jet,
      Main air corrector (bleed)
      Main emulsion tube

      Idle jet,
      Idle air corrector (bleed)

      Accel squirter 1 per venturi
Inlet valve with exhaust orifice 1 per float chamber ( accel pump check valve with hole in side to bleed back into float chamber)

Main emulsion tubes 1 per venturi
      Choke 1 per venturi

Anyone have pics of any Weber set-ups on BB's (Chevy) in traditional Muscle Cars?

Anyone have height measurements from the ft. intake to block seal to the top of the air cleaner for a vertical and side draft Weber set up?

Anyone run one of the dual quad or ind runner set-ups on a dyno that could post their sheet?

Comp Cams makes special cams for the Weber set up's. Can any experienced engine guru's post feedback on them?

Moon used to make a BB intake for Weber downdraft IDA's.

If you put IDA's on a big block, I'd recommend using the largest chokes available, (chokes are venturis). The largest std chokes for the 48 is a 45mm.

Gene Berg and Jaycee Enterprises sell bored out 48's that have a main butterfly of 51mm. Berg sells his own carb that is as large as 58mm.

The ultimate for small block was 58mm side draft intake which is the Cheetah system I posted on the other thread. But some air flow was lost from the intake crossover intersection area.

There's a sharpe big block IDA intake on ebay NOW. Sold by 50mm weber collector. The guy is a jerk though, he enver sent me the little john buttera pump I bought from him (and he doesn't respond to emails either after you send him your money)
He wants 500 bones for the manifold

As for the TBs, lumenition and VGZ have them also.

Iīm also running 4x48 DRLA Dellortoīs on my CSB385. Havenīt got a clue what kind of jets or
anything really thats inside them. Runs very good though and the sound is unique...

...and itīs more fun to open the hood when you donīt have to see the usual single carb setup
      with that big round airfilter...

Could you post a video/sound clip and link here? I'd love to hear them!
