Which is quieter? Mark VIII or Taurus fan?

I've had this Spal fan on my car for a while that is obnoxiously loud. I've been meaning to do something about it and since noise is such a sore spot at this pont does anyone have experience using both of these fans and know which is quieter?

I'll probbly use a Spal-PWM module with it at some point.

The control module will quiet things down a bunch unless things get pretty hot.

      Can you fit either version?

You may want to post this in the cooling section. I can move the post for you if you want.

that SPAL-PMW module is found more likely in landfills than cars. don't waste your money. how is the noise such a 'sore spot'? if you can hear your fans, you need a better exhaust (or stereo).

Check out his video in his link. It's very loud. Even my wife commented on it.

Yeah if you can move it to cooling. this was the wrong forum.

The only options for a controller are Spal and DCC right? DCC seems like to much hassle based on the comments I've read about getting a hold of the maker or actually receiving one.

I'm pretty sure I've got room for either fan. I measured a while back.

there is a vsc (variable speed controller) from flex-a-lite, but it won't handle the current draw of a mark8. it will work with their black magic extreme (3300cfm, 18 amps with shroud) which costs more.

X2, Mark VIII Fan, twin 75amp Bosch relays and a Dakota Digital controller, should be able to get it done for around $200.

It is hard to get ahold of dc control to ask questions etc.... but if you go to his site and order using a credit card or paypal you will get an order confirmation usually within a day and the last 2 fans with controllers that I have ordered from him(in the last 2 months) have showed up in 3-4 weeks. and his controllers work absolutely awesome, I have a mark 8 fan on my impala with his controller and it isn't very loud but then again it hardly ever runs at full speed even here in AZ

Is everyone saying mark VIII because it's quieter than the Taurus or because it flows more air?

I really don't need the extra air from the Mark VIII and after being blasted by the extreme noise of my current fan I want the other extreme :p

Both. The Taurus fan on high is pretty loud, the Mark VIII doesn't sound much louder on high than it does on low but moves a bunch more air.

+1 DCCs are the deal. Glad to hear he is still making them.

Chad, when mine is at full speed I can barely hear it in the car. But, it only stays at that speed for a few seconds then slows down. 99% of the time I cannot hear it.

Found this forum while searching for options for variable speed control of a taurus fan. Would like to research the DCC product, but can't find anything. Does anyone have a link to something other than dccontrol.com ?

      Thanks

      Dan

Should I use a FK35 or FK50 for a mark VIII fan? not sure if the FK35 will handle the current load

I believe the 50 just eliminates the jumpers used to set up the temperature on/off settings and doesn't have any higher load capaicity so the answer to your question is whichever one you prefer.
