Getting a free 9"...

My friend stumbled upon a circle track dirt racer; he is going to take the 350 and trans and put them in his 240sx, and is willing to let me have the Currie 9" thats in it. I believe it is Currie's "Circle Track" housing, like this one:

The rear end currently has the "stock" 4-link brackets(we believe the car was originally a Monte Carlo?) I also don't know how wide the rear end is.

My questions: What is the approx. cost of having the rear end shortened/lengthened and having spring perches welded on? Also, when I get it shortened/lengthened, how wide should I get it? Where should I have this done, any one a rep. shop in SoCal?



I was thinking 1" inch narrower than stock, because with my rolled fender lips, my tires are only 3/8" from rubbing. So if I go 1", each wheel will move in 1/2"? Would that be enough, or should I go more? My current wheels have 5" BS, that would open up my wheel selection as well?

On a side note, does anyone want to buy a circle track frame? lol

I'd get the the wheels and tires up in there and see where it will sit the way you want then narrow the rear to fit. Since you are going to do it.

Most likely a b body frame.

Best place to do it in So Cal would be speedway engineering in Sylmar... might be a little expensive but it will be right...

Around here if you bring all the parts (perches, shock mounts, and housing ends) it's around $150 to get one shortened and all weled up for you. Lenthened it a different story, that involves new axle tubes. You would have that added cost.

And like MrQuick said, do a mock up and get what you need, you have to pay to get it shortened you might as well get what you want.

Ive got a cheaper way, im looking for an a-body housing
measure that rear and lmk
ive got a spare currie 9" fbody housing I'd be willing to trade
figure that'll possibly save you at least $300 doing perches at most shops.

Narrowing usually runs $200-350 depending on the shop.

If its for a Monte Carlo it probably for a 78-88 metric(g-body) chassis. Sell it to someone with one of those cars and buy what you need.
