      Long tube or intermediate??

I've got a 69 Camaro that is in need of some headers. My plan is to give it the Pro tour look in the near future which means lowering it. My question is will I have ground clearance issues with long tubes or should I run some intermediate length headers. I'm not looking for any big tube headers just some 1 5/8 tubes. I do prefer long tubes but don't want scrapping problems. Thanks for any input.

      Welcome to the site!

I don't have any experience with 1st gens.and ground clearance, but generally speaking, the long tubes will make more high rpm power.
Maybe some of the 1st gen guys will chime in with some recommendations for long tubes with the best ground clearance.

If you're running an automatic, I'd recommend the Hedman 68608 headers. if you run a manual transmission, they will get in the way of the z-bar. You'd have to run a hydraulic clutch. These headers are an intermediate length design and give excellent ground clearance. You may lose a little power at higher rpm's, but the bottom end and midrange shouldn't suffer. I have the emissions legal version of these on my '77 Camaro with no problems.

I was looking at the Hedman 68608, just didn't know if they were used much. I am running an automatic.Since I'm using 1 5/8 tubes, I'm not to worried about power loss. I prefer long tube but I don't want to deal with ground scraping. Thanks for the input.
