New Australian Guy with XB Falcon

Hello all,

I'm a long-time lurker, first time poster (ltl, ftp). I'm from Newcastle, Australia and I have a 1975 XB Falcon Hardtop:






This car is going to become some sort of street-fighter type car. With the help of a few vintage racers, we have come up with a new take on the Shelby drop (involving camber gain improvements, castor improvements and reduction in anti-dive for heavy braking stability). I'm stuck with leaves due to the Australian Design Rules which force you to get everything "engineered", meaning I would have to import several Lateral-dynamics 3-links in order to get them destructively tested.



My plan for wheels involves 17x9, 17x11 BBS "race" wheels (special order), as seen on the Camaro Big Red.

I guess I should put other details in. The car will pay homage to the Bathurst "Improved Production" racers of the mid-early 1970's.

Engine plans are for a 427ci CHI alloy headed Clevor with around 600 pump fuel horsepower, individual throttle body fuel injection, a beefed up (possibly Jerico internalled) Toploader 4-speed. Obligatory 9" diff. AP racing 6 piston front calipers, 4 piston rears.

awesome car, i've always loved the XA, XB and XC falcons, especially the XB-GT. how could you not love one, 4 wheel discs, 4v clevie, etc and available with a factory sunroof too!!!!! damn, i want one of those.

Thanks. I'm really keen to make a really unusual PT car with this one. Mine has the factory 4 wheel disk brakes. They aren't bad at all. I'd still rather have some Wilwoods or AP racing though...

oh yeah, better brakes are almost a neceesity these days, but when the falcons came with 4 wheels discs in the early/mid 70's, that's pretty cool, about the only production cars with rear discs in the states were the lincoln versaille, and mk IV and the vette and that's pretty much it, maybe some euro cars like BMW and mercerdes but those don't really count

Man sweet looking Falcon! I agree with what Mr Vengence said: I would like one of those here in the states. The modifications you are going to do sound like its going to be one sweet machine! Good Luck, and keep us posted, love to see more pics if you have them.

I guess I forgot to mention, I didn't buy the car in the condition it is in now. I bought it as a rusty-but-complete car when I was 17 and have done most of the work myself. Engine build, most paint prep, suspension and brake rebuild. A friend of mine shot the car, but unfortunately since I was on a tight University budget the paint is pretty average/poor in quality.

When I've finished my Honour's degree I'd like to repaint the car and make the body gaps better. I'd love a carbon-fibre hood, painted the same as the car except for the factory XB GT stripe which would then be CF instead of satin black.

I also plan on moving to the US in a few years to live, and will bring the car with me.

I loved that car when I was growing up. I didn't know what it was back in the day, but I wanted one. Mad Max FTW. Funny how Mel Gibson's career wasn't politically correct, an now he isn't politiclly correct

doesn't RRS offer a 3 link rear system for the Aussie falcons?

I'm not interested in it, to be honest. I think that it is package compromised, as do a number of people I know, some of whom are engineers.

There has been news of the stolen Aussie muscle cars. One of them, an XA coupe similar to mine, has been found stripped and burnt out. Absolutely heart-wrenching.
