      Hot August Nights 2008

I'm thinking about making the trip from Okc, Ok to Reno for the Hot August Nights this year. I only plan on being there for 3-4 days. Is it better to get there for the first 3 days or the last few days? I guess what I am trying to ask is there a better part of the week to go? Also, I would like to stay at a hotel close to the action so any opinions would be appreciated.

      Thanks Dustin

I am going from Wednesday to Saturday or Sunday (not sure yet). If you do not have a reservation yet, you might have a tough time finding one now. As far as "action" i would stay around sparks and peppermill and Atlantis areas myself. Down town gets a little to crowded.

So I went on Alantis website and there price is pretty dang high for Wed.-Sat. night. Would it be ok to stay in a hotel not a casino and drive a few miles each day to come into Reno, if so where do you recommend?

The action is spread out over reno and sparks so you usually end up driving around anyways. So staying at a small motel hotel is not a bad idea. Reno is not that big in the scope of things and doesn't take a long time to travel to the differant areas.

Bumping this back up. I'll be getting there Thursday afternoon, staying through Sunday evening. The dad is bringing his 69 GTO Judge up for its first time at HAN, so we're noobs and will be learning about the event as we go.

We're staying at the Grand Sierra. Not sure at all about where we'll be hanging out though. Like I said, we're noobs so we're really not sure where the fun stuff will be at. I'm open to all recommendations though, and it would be great to meet up with anyone that'll be up there.

Grand Sierra used to be the MGM. It is big and has a huge car show. Go there, the Peppermill, Atlantis and the auction is right across the street from the Atlantis. They probably have 800 cars to auction in a big air conditioned building.

Just got back from HAN and had a good time, there were ALOT of cars up there and the weather was good. I attended as many venues as I could but not all. I did get an award at the Eldorado / Silver Legacy show-n-shine on Virginia St. They only give out six awards so to say that I was honored is an understatement considering the company in attendance. Maybe next year I'll be able to stay the whole weekend. I saw Jody's car as well (finally) in person and it is absolutely beautiful.
