      Th200 R4

How mch can a stock trans take....I can swap my rebuilt uprated th400 with shiftkit and 10" conv. for a rebuilt th200r4. The th400 is a little overkill for my plans, its heavy, take much hp and only 3 speed...

2004R's work well in 9 second 1/4 mile Buick Grand Nationals so expect a 2004R will work well your car. In stock condition it depends upon which 2004R you choose. The BRF code Grand National Transmission is the best as it also has a unique valve body and a stock Dr5 converter has a 2400 stall. The next best is from a Monte SS or 442. After that all the other 2004R's are fairly weak in stock form.

A decent stock BRF GN 2004R will well up to about 400+lbs of torque and 400HP with a good stock D5 converter. That's been my experience.
