      camaro keeps dying

      ok, so i have the 69 camaro withthe LT1/t56 swap. car is up and running but continues to have a tough time finding its correct idle. Everytime i slow down or stop for a light the car will immediately die and idle to low. Ive had the computer tuned for the bigger cam and other aftermarket pieces but i still cant seem to get enough gas to the engine.

      a while ago the car ran fine after i had driven it about 10 miles or so, and it idles perfectly everytime. I was told this was because the computer is self learnin and had taught itself to idle correctly. I had to later remove the battery causing the memory to be wiped. Now ive put a good 30 miles on the car and i wont seem to relearn to idle correctly....

      The problem is the LT1, get rid of it and the problem will be gone, LOL. Just kidding...

      I don't know, is there anything else you messed around with lately? Make sure all your sensors are plugged in, there are no intake air leaks (loose air boots, etc.). Maybe you have a sticking idle valve, LT1s do have idle valves, don't they? If so, you could try tapping on it to try freeing it up.

      dunno about the LT1s, but the LS1's re-learn is like 50-100 miles i think? i could be wrong, i kinda forgot, but that sounds about right.

      I had the opposite problem. Mine would idle at 2000, never lower. I tried cleaning and resetting the IAC ( idle air control) valve located on the bottom of the throttle body, and found it was stuck solid. 65 bucks for a new one , and the idle works perfectly. It starts at about 1500, then drops down to about 800 after 30 sec. and stays there.

      Reset the IAC Position
      • Depress accelerator slightly
      • Start engine, then release accelerator pedal, run engine for 5 seconds
      • Turn ignition "OFF" for ten seconds
      • Restart engine and check for proper idle operation It is NOT recommended to to push or pull on the pintle of an IAC that has been in service. The force required can damage the threads on the worm drive. Also, do not soak the IAC in any liquid cleaner or solvent, as damage may result. When installing a new IAC, you may move the pintle to match the measurement of the old one. The force required to move a NEW valve will not cause damage to it. Use engine oil to lubricate the o-ring. Tighten attaching screws to 27 lb. in.

        Note that the 1993 IAC has a square electrical connector and the valve screws into the throttle body, instead of being held on by screws like those of later years.
