Radiator Fluid Flowing Out - What's Wrong??

I just dropped in the new 496 Big Block and fired it up.

I have a Ron Davis Aluminum Radiator w/ Dual Electric Fans, 180 Degree Thermostat (new), 18 Pound Stant Radiator Cap, Reverse Rotation Water Pump.

I ran the engine at idle with the cap off and let the temp come up to around 190 to make sure the thermostat opened and the coolant ran through the block and passages. I let the car run for around 10 minutes with the cap off. It spurted radiator fluid out once in a while and I sat there and filled it back up when it did.

I capped the radiator and drove the car. It seems the radiator overflows into the catch can and eventually the catch can fills up and radiator fluid is spurting out of the catch can. A lot of fluid flows out.

What the heck is going on here? The only thing I have not replaced is the Stant 18 pound cap. Is was new from last year so I am assuming it's not the problem.

Do I have an air pocket? If so, how do I get rid of it? I need some help here... I am not sure what else to do....

      couple questions to help:

what type of catch can? Is it a return type?
      Temp that this is occuring?
      Running a heater?
Is the top hose getting hot?
*edit....reasoning for the reverse pump and is the rest of the system set up for it?

Easiest way for me to rid air in the system is to hook up my vaccum pump. Old way was to remove the top heater hose and fill till coolant comes out of it.

If you have a moroso catch can there is no return so as the coolant comes out due to expansion it stays out and then over flows the can cause it never returns coolant to the system as it cools.

The set up I like to use is a stock unit out of a 73-77 Nova/Omega/Apollo. Fits nice in the fender hole behind the passenger side head lamp and holds about 3 quarts of fluid.

It's the black plastic Moroso Catch Can. I see what you are saying... The moroso catch can has the inlet at the top and the drain at the bottom. The water will never return back to the radiator. I need a recovery can, not a catch can.

      Temp that this is occuring?
I think it's occuring when it gets hot. I will double check this.

      Running a heater?
Yes, I am running a heater. Vintage Air.

Is the top hose getting hot?
Top heater hose or top radiator hose? Since my heater hoses are not running into the firewall in the normal fashion I am not sure which one would be my top. They run along the inside fender and through the old blower hole on the passenger side. The rest of the firewall has been smoothed.

*edit....reasoning for the reverse pump and is the rest of the system set up for it?
Reverse pump is used because I am running the Vintage Air Front Runner Serpantine Kit.

This recovery can seems to be something that will bring the fluid back in and also is vented to remove the air trapped in the system...

I might give that a shot.

If you dont wat to spend more then hook the hose to the petcock on the bottom of the catch can and leave it open. Use another length of hose to route true overflow towards the outside of the car and viola, recovery.
