Quarter help needed

Ok the big debate build a body jig or not build a body jig. What is the correct way to hang quarters all squared up on a jig or with the car on the ground with every thing hanging off of it. I have to do the trunk and floor pan as well so I am just trying to make sure that thing stays strait. But I had planed on doing the quarters first or am I thinking about it wrong and should I do the floors first?

I have always been told , when replacing panels, to have the car sitting on all 4 tires. Or at least have jack stands on all four corners of the car, ideally as close to the where the wheels would be as possible. I think its best to place the rear jack stands next the leaf springs on the rear axle.The leaf springs mount to the body furter out and just placing them on the rear frame somwhere may not give you the accurate load on the body. I think the front can be just about anywhere on the front frame, just keep them as close as possible to the A-arms.

But I would think the floors should be done first. just my .02 cents

Do the floors first. That way you will have a lot more practice and know whether you are ready to tackle a qtr ?

You can do the car either way but it is not reccomended to do both at the same time.

The one i just finished for JcGc here on the board went like this.

BODY SHELL ONLY - i had 4 jack stands - 1 at the rear of each rocker panel , and 1 at the front of each rocker panel..
I added a 1x1 tubing brace front the A-Piller - a plate welded to the end bolted directly up to the TOP door hinge , went back to the front of the rear 1/4 and WELDED it to the inside lip .

I did the Floor first ( just like JN stated above) gives you a more stucturally sound platform to work with.

Then 1 quarter at a time - ( WHEEL WELL S , Trunk drops , so on )
Then the other side .
THEN tail panel if needed and rear window filler ...I USED THEM FOR PROPER ALIGNMENT FOR 1/4s SO I KNEW THINGS WERE IN PLACE.

Before i did the final welding on the 1/4s , i mounted the doors (Per side i was working on ) and made sure the door was aligned to the rockers and the rear 1/4 correctly.

Once done and back on the rotisserie , GAPS REMAINED CORRECT !

Only body work done on the car in the last picture ( BEING PICKED UP AND TAKEN HOME ) was at the SAIL PANEL where the roof and 1/4 connect.
OTHER THAN THAT , ITS BARE METAL WITH VERAPRIME ON THE OUTSIDE !
