      Best Clutch??

I may as well replace the clutch in mt T-56 before I install it in my 69 Camaro.. What is the best all around clutch for a driver. The car might get raced once in a blue moon..

      2002 LS1 Heads Cam swap, T-56, 4.10 gears..

      Thanks

You might want to read up at ls1tech.com about clutches, they have a lot of info over there. a couple years ago when I was searching the hot setup was a spec stage 2 or 3 but that may have changed since then.

I am using the LS7 clutch with an LS2 flywheel. You can get complete kits for around $550 for everything (clutch disc, pressure plate & flywheel).

My clutch is very smooth and has a reasonably light pedal. It has worked very well with my 600 hp so far, so you should have no issues at your power level. There is also the peace of mind of it being an OEM part that is readily available and engineered to be reliable and durable behind a 500 hp motor.

I agree with the LS7 clutch, thats what I went with. I haven't driven the car with it yet but everyone on LS1tech seems to recommend it and its supposed to be a great setup for the money. I also like the fact that it is an OEM part.

I bought mine from T56rebuilds.com , they were the people that beefed up my T56 for me before I installed it. You could buy the parts from a local Chevy dealer, but they will most likely charge you more. I'd call T56 rebuilds, they will know exactly what you want.

As far as I know, aluminum flywheels aren't all that good for a street car. You will lose that inertia that helps get the car moving from a stop better. Maybe some others will throw in their opinions here.

      New throw-out bearing.

      New pilot bearing.

      New fasteners.

If you want to go whole-hog a new clutch MC.

To me this clutch was a no-brainer. Stock pedal feel and 500+ HP capable. What's not to like?

SDPC has a lot of stuff that is well priced. The Pace parts site has some clearance items that you have to do some research on to find out what they are but they are super inexpensive. Bought some -10 hose end fittings for less than 1/2 Summit's price.

Its supposed to be a great clutch and hold up to alot of abuse but be easy to drive. I second CarlC's link, thats where I bought mine, probably the cheapest around, definantly cheaper than the local dealership.

The dyno shop (turboconnections) says a aluminum flywheel is a instant 20 rwhp difference he has done this several times.

Years ago he did believe that a heavy car on the street would need a steel flywheel.

Now he is firm on the aluminum flywheel also on the street. The rotating mass is greatly reduced and the car will rev quicker.

The link says it comes with new flywheel bolts. I'm hoping/assuming it comes with the pressure plate bolts.

I'm definitely getting this setup, though. Hell of a deal.
