      2 bolt build

i searched under 2 bolt mains and didn't find much

      can i build a good 2 bolt main 350SBC?

      i mean about 400 hp and 6500RPM...
I don't know if i need 4 boolt splayed caps...i have everything to build it as is now.

what should i be looking for or worried about. can it wrok as an autoX or track motor like this?

400 hp shouldnt be a problem, buy quality aftermarket fasteners (ARP) and you shouldnt have any problems, might as well go with a stud kit.

yup i have the studs although the availability of splayed main caps, and seemingly simple to install cheap insurance i suppose- what does milling the block go for to put those in? Or can i actually drill it with the provided guides?

You *may* be able to drill the splayed bolts but the main caps still need to be align bored/honed to the block. Since this has to be done it wouldn't cost much more to let the machine shop do both. You probably can't match their accuracy and if you mess up...you get to buy a differant block.

true, spalyed mains need to be line honed.
I have a BBC that someone added 2 extra bolts to the 2 bolt mains before I got it. not the best way to go but Ill still use the block.

I agree here. If you are going to go 4 bolt splayed let the machine shop do it for you.

I don't think it is necessary for the build up you are going to do. If you say you already have ARP studs for the bottom end, just go with them, you will be fine. Just my $.02

2-bolts can handle plenty of power and torque. just build it right with the right fasteners and torque.

      thanks for the advice.
what's the fear behind a two bolt SBC anyway...
if it can take 400 or a bit more ponies, that is alot full throttle all day.
      in a teeny car anyway

im not sure here, but i beleive the 2-bolt can't take high RPMs or longer stroke cranks as well as a 4 or 6-bolt. i think rotating assembly balance is also much more important.

Local shop here quoted $185 bucks to do the splayed mains.... that included ARP main bolts and some kinda different splayed main caps (i think from ARP also but maybe not).

I ran a two-bolt in my old circle track engine, turning low 7k's for short bursts with no problem (it was also bored .060, another no-no in some books). It was balanced, Fluidamper'ed, line-honed, and had ARP bolts. I don't think there is much you can do with a four-bolt that you couldn't do with a two-bolt.

      Let's see??

I think stock SB's start to split right down the V at 700 to 750 hp after a bunch of HARD running..

So go from there. (5.0's too!)..

I did install a 2-stud main bolt kit in my 496 for a bit of extra insurance.

I spun my crank and made darn sure everything was OK or if NOT, I'dda hauled it off for a main saddle hone job!
