      Rear brake line size question

I am about to install a full Wilwood 4 wheel disc conversion on my 68 Camaro that previously had 4 wheel drums (common swap I think). It was suggestion to me by Frank at Prodigy Customs to use 3/16" line. So, I bought the line the other day and while checking to make sure I had all the fittings I need, I noticed the body end of the rear brake line has a larger fitting. It looks to be the same size as what's originally on the car. Since the car has always had working brakes, has never set un-used more than a few months at a time, I am contemplating not running new line except where I have to and just returning what I don't use. I would like to hear some opinions on this, positive or negative. Also, please share your opinions on what size line to run to the rear axle. Should I use 3/16's everywhere and just adapt that one fitting or do something else. Frank, I would love to hear your opinion as well (if you read this). I just want to make sure I do it right the first time - I HATE having to redo stuff from having cut corners the first time around.

Geoff, it is not going to hurt anything to run 1/4" to the rear. I only specify 3/16" if someone is replumbing from scratch. The technical difference between 1/4" and 3/16 is microscopic at best. However, if your going to use your original line and if you have a little valve on the side of your subframe under the drivers seat, (found on original disc / drum cars) you need to elminate that valve with a coupler.

Thanks for the info - you have been extremely helpful. I don't know how in the world you find time to do all you do. I am pretty sure there is no valve, but I'll look anyway just in case!

Thanks again for all you've done to help. Here's hoping the rear parts arrive tomorrow - I'm ready to get started!

It did make a difference for me. The change allowed the proportioning valve to be effective. With the stock line with the valve open fully the rear tires would not lock. Change the line, now they lock.

I agree, run a 1/4" line to the rear and tee off to 3/16". I was running 3/16" to the rear and it made the brakes real touchy. Switched to 1/4" and it was better.

Thanks for the info guys. The car currently has a 1/4" line to the rear and then t's off to 3/16" on the axle. I plan to re-do at least the 3/16" line since it looks terrible.
