      Nor Cal Scene

I just started Chiropractic college down here in Hayward and I want to get connected with some car clubs and some of the scene down here. What kind of clubs, tracks, meeting points are around here to check out? Basically if you guys could just brag about the area and some of the sick places and clubs to check out, that'd be awesome. I'm really diggin the PT/G-machine thing as well as Mopars and am pullin so many ideas from you guys for my own car I have going on back home. I also want to give back what I can and get involved, so talk to me and let me know what's cool around here. I look forward to meeting a bunch of you.

I'm not part of any clubs, but there are a few local NorCal members on here that are good sources of information and just plain nice guys to talk to. As far as tracks, you're limited to Infineon Raceway in Sonoma (Sears Point). Depending on the season, they have a variety of cool events going on, including Wednesday night drags for people with street cars looking to mess around. The next event I'm aware of that you might like is the Goodguys car show at the Pleasanton fairgrounds... weekend of March 29/30.

Welcome to the bay! Hope you're enjoying yourself so far... Ron

Tracks: Infineon (Sonoma), Laguna Seca (Monterey), Thuderhill (Willows) ....and I think there is still a dragstrip in Sacramento.

Auto-x: Oakland Arena, Candlestick, Marina Airport (Monterey) and in Atwater. On almost any given weekend during warmer months there is an auto-x in one of those places.

Good to know... I wasn't aware of the auto-x events locally. Thanks!

      Oh I dunno, google?

"autocross northern california" returns a few hits.
"SCCA San Francisco Region" seems likely.
"Autocross Atwater" gets you to the American Auto-x Series site

www.baautox.com for the local Solo II and autocross scene. There's stickies at the top of some forum sections for the different groups that host events.

Just had an event at the Marina Airport site (down by Monterey). There was also an event at Golden Gate Fields in Albany. Most any weekend offers something with pylons ...

Not at the UFO-Marina event ... Mike Camicia runs the Auto Tech program at Gunn HS in Mtn. View area and has that car. He usually brings some present and former students to most of the Marina events and has run that car there as well. I had to take a second look when I first saw it ... cool repro.

Welcome. A couple friendly local clubs: NorCal LS1's meet Thursday nights at McCarthy Ranch in front of the Starbuck's. Nice group that has interests (and members) beyond their name. Their site is norcal-ls1.com and has details in the GTG (get-to-gether) section.

NorCal Turbo Buick Club: Meets in Milipitas at the Round Table on Calaveras Blvd. on the 1st Tues of each month, and they do cruises, dyno and track days. Also a nice group that enjoys other cars.

Hot Rod Event: I hope I have this right - you might want to check. There is a large gathering Wednesday nights (I believe in warm weather it is every Wed but in colder maybe monthly) behind the Boston Market on El Camino in Santa Clara. I haven't been yet but heard there was 200-300 cars that show, sort of like the old Happy Days events.

If I think of more I'll post them up. Check out Goodie's Speed Shop in San Jose. They also host a few events and are a great local shop.

New guy buys the first round, eh? Sounds good, just don't gang up on me.

A buddy and me already checked out Laguna on a jaunt down to Monterey. That was rediculous. I never realized how steep that corkscrew is. We actually caught it on a track day and saw CurtiSS running his Camaro around the track. We also ducked into the pits and BS'd with some of the guys about the NASA and stuff like that. That's pretty bad ass that some guys run the track in rental cars...

I had heard about Goodies in San Jose, so I'll definitely have to check that out. Do they do any tuning in their shop or just sell the good stuff? I see a bunch of members from here and Lat-g that'll be going to the Goodguy's show in Pleasanton, too. I missed it last year when I was checking out the Hayward campus but there's no way that's happening again. I don't think I can make it on Saturday, but if anyone is heading out there sunday and wants to meet up, shoot me their number in a pm and we can get something going. Some of the auto-x events sound like a good time too. Can you just come and hang out even if you don't have a car to run?

With all the events going on around here, studying could become a distant second in my books. Thanks for the info on what's up around here. Hopefully I'll get to meet a few of you.

I used to work there. Goodies does it all. It's your one stop shop. They've got one of the best tuners in the bay area, if not the state doing the dyno tuning. He's REAL good. Best I've actually witnessed, actually.

The car on the trailer outside his house right now reads "Gunn HS Automotive Tech" on it. Nice looking little RX-7. Must be him.

      Gotta talk to that guy.

      Hey True ....

He just got back from Thunderhill and the Miata High-Performance Driving School. I think the RX7 ate an apex seal as he didn't run it much. Had a great time as an instructor and got to flog the '73 around the track both days. Gave rides and got some grins from the passengers (students).

Yes, definitely talk to Mike and Nadine. They're great folks and Mike has done so much for the Gunn Auto Tech program.

      Cheers,
