I can not stand the announcers for barrett-jackson. These people are awful. Especially the british guy. he knows nothing and i can not listen to him call a roof the hood anymore. and the hood the bonnet. we live in the usa. They are saying the most ridiculous things about cars. They were trying to say that they do not understand how someone can put a lot of money into a car and since it is not all origonal it should not be worth much. I just can not take it. it is ruining the whole experiance for me. what would you rather have an all origanal 32 for or a tricked out high boy

Last night they had some guy give his definition of what a "Resto-Mod" was.

I guess they can have their opinion on it, but it sure doesn't match mine.

They showed a ealry Mustang, with a FI 5.0, custom interior, late model wheels, not sure on suspension and brake, but they're updated too. That, is pro-touring!

There definition was, "the body still looks stock." But everything else can be upgraded. I sure don't see many doing body mods to a '60's style muscle car. And that's a good thing. :icon996:

Yea, I noticed the same thing.. they are pretty clueless about the muscle cars, but boy do they know lots about MG's and Jags!!!

That G-Machine green (65?) Mustang vert sure was nice. And $43k didn't seem like a bad deal.

I happen to catch it when they were having the "resto-mod" discussion. Brock needs to retire. IMO, a resto-mod is a term for 50's vehicles.

Seriously how do they keep there jobs. Me and my dad just sit there and scream at the tv i have to put it on mute at some points. there has to be better people that could be doing this. i just get so fustrated i am glad that i am not alone.

IMNSHO, resto-mod is a term given to restored to good condition cars/trucks but are modified from stock in some way. Whether it be Pro Touring, Pro Street, street machine, etc. The Mustang would be a resto-mod in a Pro Touring style.

Actually pro-touring is called a "G-machine" by PHR magazine, and resto-mod was thrown around by one of the other mags also, but both meant a pro-tour car. As for Allen D (the british guy), I dunno, he is/was a helluva driver in the 70's, think he raced Formula 1, and did well at Lemans. And youre right, his American knowledge is limited, but he always admits it, and will defer to Brock Yates. Not that I'm on his payroll or anything, but I cut the guy some slack. He's still got a serious love for cars, check out his Ferrari, Porsche, Alfa, Lambroghini, etc. specials on Speedchannel sometime, and his attitude is contagious. Now as for SMUG-AZZ BRITS, my personal hate is reserved for the guy on The Fifth Gear show. makes me want to throw the TV out!

I understand that he has a love for cars and all That is great but they need somebody who actually knows something about them. He talked about a 58 impala saying that it was an SS Not Possible SS was not around in 58. also he was talking about a 63 corvette and how it would have got more money if it had the 427 in it. again not true 427's were not made in 63. For someone who loves cars and was a editor for magazines he makes alot of mistakes. The whole team does. Get somebody that knows what they are talking about.

Well I literally gave a "What the hell are you talking about?" to the TV when the 49 merc came up. It was a pro-street style show car that looked like it was built back in 92. really looked dated, and thats when they had the whole discussion on what Pro-street means. funniest part was when they determined it was because of the hydralics and the super wide M/T tires in the rear. after about a 2 minute pause, Brock Yates started saying the whole Pro-Stock comparo, so I wonder who came up and said something that sounded a bit closer to the truth?

I caught a few mistakes, but overall I enjoyed the coverage. I have to believe it would be difficult to get someone who knew every detail about every car. It was a pretty diverse lot.

Well- I kind of enjoy the different backgrounds they bring. A D has driven more cars of significant history than most of us combined, and is therefore a more than qualified judge. He gets in $1mil+ one-offs, and throws them around a private course.

Brock and Bob could be more representative, but Barret Jackson has always had the high-end collectible and near-unobtainable stuff. Brock has been around the auto and racing industry as long as I've been alive, so he deserves a bit of slack. Bob Varsha is a racing category expert, not a Yenko afficianado. They're all there for classic cars- not trendy builds (as PT is still seen by some in the collector industry). You have to forgive them if the Mule hasn't quite gained the public steam of a GT40 MKIII.

Do they know muscle cars as much as they should? No. They don't need to- BJ is on a trend to repeat the late 80's sales numbers, with just a tick of caution. All the boomers (part deux) are jumping back in as they near retirement.

And please remember that even with all their experience- they are announcers. If they were the real industry experts, they'd be the one's restoring or building these cars. you guys never hear about the guys who really are 'the experts'.

(SSL)- The annoying guy on top gear? Who- Tiff, or the big guy? Those guys are straightforward, and beat the crap out of whatever they're testing or doing.

I am not talking about pro-touring stuff. and i am not at all asking them to know everything about every car. but when they make comments just to hear themselves talk it makes them look stupid. talk about something they do know about. I work in telvision and i know announcers that actually know what they are talking about. These are called good announcers. and from what i hear these guys talking about they are not good announcers and should retire if they do not know what is going on anymore. because they are just spreding wrong facts. like my examples earlier now people might think that there are such things as 58 impala SS and there isn't

There were so many corvettes that went across the blocks and i heard one of them calling a fuel injected corvette a F1 corvettes sorry but for people who drive all these great cars have you ever heard of a F1 corvette not me. i think that people who are so great and true car people would know something about corvettes. So i am not talking about not knowing about pro-touring cars not at all.
