      Chevrolets new Nascar engine

Has anyone seen this yet? I think it's called the R09. Was just curious if it was for sale to the public. Think it would look cool nestled between the fenders of somebody's car. Can't imagine the price tag!

I believe it is the R07. I haven't seen/heard very much of it, other than what I went looking for.

Old news...alot of the teams ran them in 07. That is the engine that blew up in almost every RCR car in one of the final races.

That engine was also in the cars that "finished" at the top of the Nextal Cup points race.

Latest issue of Hot Rod has a feature on it. Complete clean sheet design, to fit within NASCAR's engine specs for new entries.

Another example of Nascar being totally out of touch with production vehicles.

I agree completely. I would like to see Chevy running a carb'd LS3, Ford running a Carb'd 5.4 modular and Dodge running a carb'd 6.1 Hemi. Acutally I would like to see FI but that would be difficult to govern. Finally, no RWD conversions. If it didn't come from the factory with the engine facing the right direction driving the right wheels, you can't race it.

The Engine would cost you approx 45k in parts alone.. another 30 to 40 in machine and assembly if you can even buy the stuff most Mfg's place the componets on permanent back order..to keep the stuff from falling into the wrong hands...Although the RO7 Is a pretty direct copy of a phase 11 Toyota...and a little R5 Dodge...

Is it quicker? How big? Comp is very cool. I would think it would take a few more years of development before there would be enough understanding of the R07 to compete with the SB2.2 stuff.

I don't have the details, but I think his first time out it picked up a a couple tenths.

AS far as cost, I could have built 2 cars for what it cost.

The R07's are making more power out of the box than the current SB2's...the homework was done before the first one was on the dyno... they'll only get better and they need to hurry Toyota's got'em by 25-30...
