      Cooling Fan Need Help!!

Bought a preset fan control from advance for my electric fan. Couldn't get the darned thing to work! I was thinking about just using the relay and harness to hook up to a manual switch. How do I need to do this to get it to work. Here is how the relay is set up to work with the temp probe...

Red wire - From relay to 12v battery source
Black wire - From relay to chassis ground
Orange wire - From relay to fan motor power wire
Brown wire - from relay to temp probe
Yellow wire - From temp probe to ignition switch

Is there anyway to turn the ignition switch source into a manual switch and use the relay? Which line do I need to put the manual switch in?

      PLEASE HELP ME!

Do you have a connection from the other side of the fan to ground?
You should be able to connect the ignition switched lead to the relay. It'll at least tell you if the rest of the circuit is wired properly.

Is there any way to wire this up without using the switch source? I just want to use the relay to keep some of the current out of the switch because it overheats and breaks.

Found a good site that tells you everything you would want to know about relays.

To finish off this thread (ie. I figured out why I'm an idiot), I will add that:

To wire an manual switch to an electric fan:
wire all of the connections the same way as instructed, except for the brown and yellow wires. Run the brown wire to the switch. From the switch, run the yellow wire back to the hot lead on the battery.

The kit I was using from advance auto was the Hayden thermal fan switch, but all I used from it were the wires and the relay. I probably could have found a cheaper way to do this, but atleast now I have complete control over the fan without worring about overloading the switch.

I hope this helps somebody else out there that is as wiring ignorant as I am.
