      Manual Or Automatic

I am currently debating on wether I should put a turbo 400 trans, or convert my current transmission which is a th350 to a six speed manual. I don't want to spend more then $3000, so I'm assuming my options are limited. But I was wondering if there was a way I could piece together a six speed set up for a cheap price. If not what company would be recomended for the th400. The car I am putting this in is a 1979 camaro. It has a 350 putting out 400hp, with a th350 trans, and I just converted the rear to a ford 9" with a 3.70 gear ratio.

Might be able to find a decent T5 out of a wrecked third gen that would be a good donor. Kiesler would be able to hook you up with a TKO 500, but you would have to get pedals and linkage. You shouldn't notice much difference between a 5 and 6 speed. The T56 just has 2 very low gears.

What kind of driving do you do?

If you do a lot of cruising and road driving check this out....

It is a little over your budget but they have everything you need to do a clean swap and having overdrive is worth it. Of course an auto with overdrive would be good too if you can find the right one.

Personally I usually prefer manuals. They are more fun for me but harder for my wife to drive. So my project car is going to stay an auto so we can share in the fun.

If you just want to drag go with the 400.
