      Dash flocking

Anyone have any info on places to get a dash flocked? Anyone had a dash flocked? Anyone flocked a dash themselves?

I'm looking at having the dashes in both my XR4TI and the Mach flocked at some point... probably the XR first though. I hear it's probably cheaper than upholstering or buying a new dash or having a dash "rebuilt".

      Hi!

A friend of mine is doing this. But it's in Norway. If you don't get it done in the US we might arrange something. Take a look at his site.

I've never seen a flocked dash.Looks like that flocking dash would be hard to clean.

Is it a soft or firm surface?

It's very easy to keep clean. That's why many is "flocking" their dashes.

It sort of looks like wrinkle paint in a way. Here's a shot of my instrument panel (disregard old tach.) krylon wrinkle paint.

For anyone who doesn't know, flocking is a coating that uses cloth fibers (usually nylon) and bonds them to a surface. The finish is very much like suede or velvet. It's durable, easy-ish to clean, and most importantly for dashes, applied in black it basically absorbs all light, thus eliminating any reflections in the windshield. You can see the attraction.

Sadly I'm not having any luck finding any sources in the USA that do custom electrostatic flocking. I'm really hoping not to send stuff to the UK. Heck, if I find out there aren't any places doing it, maybe I'll start a business.

Well, after checking out West Michigan Flocking, I found a link to the American Flocking Association (who knew!) and they have a list of member companies that provide services. So I now have a few places to contact and see who does what and how much. Wish me luck...

When you get a flocking price quote have them break it down somehow like square inch or square foot. Id like to flock something. Flock it real hard too!

Also see what base products they can flock over.
