Why does this oxygen sensor cost so much?

I was doing google searches trying to find prices of ecu's like a commander 950. I found this website http://www.mpsracing.com/products/Holley/FI03.asp I'm happy to see the commander 950 ecu is a little cheaper than I expected but look at the price of that oxygen sensor. I thought you could get wideband oxygen sensors for less than $100. How come this one cost over $400 ?

That is the NTK sensor. The Bosch LSU 4 sensors are much less expensive. Controllers are designed to use one or the other. In the case of the Holley controller it can use either the Bosch or the NTK. Same for the FJO controllers. Holley controller = FJO controller. The Holley wideband kit PN 534-197 includes the Bosch sensor, but it can also be configured to work with the NTK sensor.

the OEM's have come out with an actual air/fuel ratio sensor. they are VERY expensive but are much more accurate and respond much faster than an O2 sensor. i don't know if that's the case here but it's something to keep in mind.

if you pull up the lm-1 programmer menu there is a drop down box for changing the type of sensor. on pg. 12 of the manual there is a picture of the menu screen.

That would be the wideband sensors being discussed here.

no not the wideband O2 sensor. this is more of a true air/fuel sensor. i've mostly seen them in toyota's and CANNOT be replaced with an O2. they are as different from the widebands as the WB's are from narrowbands. one of the major improvements is that with a WB or NB sensor when you have a misfire, the O2 reads lean. the A/F sensor does not.

Thanks Andrew, is that sensor only for a serious racer and not just someone who wants a daily driver like me or does it pay to get it? That ecu is the same one I need for a v8 right?

what does the innovate wiring harness and ecu cost? Can I use it for TBI? Does it control the ignition and a bunch of other things?

It could be including the price of the firmware upgrade to use the wideband. It used to be $700 I think now through Summit it is around $350 then you send it in to Holley for the firmware/software upgrade.

The Innovate is not a engine control computer. It is just a wideband. The Commander 950 is an engine control system that can use either a narrow band or a wideband. The wideband is a great option because it makes tuning much easier.
