      Looking for engine weights.

I'm looking for the complete weights of a couple engines.

      Olds 455

      LS1 alum block

or a newer GM 2.0 ecotec.

Trying to decide if swapping out the 455 for one of the other two would save me enough weight to justify it.

      It'll be in a 65 Corvair.

Thanks for the helpful information. I've never thought about that. The LS1 comes up often, but not the olds or Eco tec.

SO far from googling I've found the avg weights

      http://www.241computers.com/ford/Con...s20-30-38.html

      Olds 455 620lbs

      Ecotech 307lbs http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2...07/035473.html

      The LS1 460-500 http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...06/ls1ls6.html

So, I'll be best to go with the Ecotec to save a couple hundred pounds.

i had read one of your corvair posts, i was thinking you should do a ecotech mid engine but didnt say it. those blocks are bulletproof, i heard of a ss s/c cobalt getting ran on a bigger pulley with a 75 or 100 shot of nitrous sprayed 10 bottles through it and never grenaded it in 10k miles.

I was going to go with an Eco, but after calling a couple of mfg's it's going to cost a little over $1,000 just to get a trans adapter made. That's more than I'm willing to spend for an adapter.

is an ls1 that heavy? or is that the steel block versions? reason I ask is that an alum. head sbc with a steel block is around 450-460lbs; and my all aluminum sbc came in at 355lbs.
