      Gas tank setup

      I guess I'll start by saying I really want a ricks tank, but my budget just is not allowing it.

      I have just about 1100$ right now into the motor and I have the stage 2 heads from gtp, a decent cam, 42lb injectors. and all the goodies to put it together.. (missing a intake and TB at this point)

      My Problem is, I can not decide on what to do about the tank. Ricks is nice, but for 1200-1500 I just can't do that and get the other things that I need.

      goodmark is now selling a tank with a 55 gal per hour at 60psi that goes right into the camaros. part # 4020-750-69fi 700$

      my other option is, sump my stock tank and put a a1000 aeromtive pump on it for 500-600$

      opinions?

      Rock Valley will sink a pump into your stock tank for you for around $600-$700. I think you can run an external Walpro pump without having to sump the stock tank. But you will need to add a fitting on the top of the sender for a return. This is what I am planning to do.

      Craig Boone ran a stock tank with no baffling on his Camaro and had no problems until he got to just over 1/4-tank on a road coarse. For cruising you might get away with going lower but you may end up with an engine stumble or shutdown.

      Don't go big on the pump, it's totally unnecessary. An in/external Walbro 255 LPH will easily support 550-600 RWHP and can be found on evil-bay for cheap. I have not done it but it may be possible, with a little ingenuity, to mount a Walbro pump on a stock pickup. Big maybe, but it might be worth investigating. Do an internet search on homemade fuel sumps, baffling, etc. There's a ton of stuff out there.

      There are in-tank pump+trays available. I've seen them but can't find the link. Not perfect, but fine for most applications. You could have a local shop weld-in the necessary mounting ring.

      You could also look into using an Impala tank. A few mods are required but it does wedge in there.

      I just adapted a return line to my stock tank and used an external pump mounted just in front of the tank. So far it works very well and doesn't give me trouble unless I'm under 1/4 tank, whipping around corners. When I do, I can hear the pump sucking air for a few seconds, but the motor never stumbles. I'll know more after my suspension and brakes rebuild this winter, but I'd say it works good enough for me. See my sig for details on the car.

      We use Holley 12-920 external pump all the time. Like these guys. Just pull our your stock sending unit plate, weld in a fitting for the return line and go. No need to get so complex.

      thanks everyone.. still have not started on the tank yet, but should be shortly once I get the mock up done on the motor and headers in there.

      Jeff, how loud is the holley 12-920 pump? reasonable? I know it will never sound like a intank pump, but the other holley pumps I have on the drag car are loud. I have them rubber mounted, isolated and still are noisy.. (drag car though, so who cares)
