      T-5 Conversion

Need to know the BEST AND EASIEST T-5 CONVERSION KIT out there for a 65 Fastback?? Anyone have good/bad experiences with any particular place or kit? The car originally had a stick in it so the pedals are there but want a kit that is as complete as possible that can handle around 450 hp 450 tq. So who should I talk to? Dark Horse? Modern driveline?

Also, what clutch setup should I use? Cable? Hydraulic? Pros and cons to each? I want to run headers on my 302 and I dont have power steering... Thanks in Advance!!

G-Force transmissions can sell you a T-5 that will hold up to your engine. Not sure they will have complete kits.

i personally used the modern driveline kit in my car and it fit great!!! i personally have always been a fan of the cable clutch due to the simplicity and the price! if u are going to be installing into a 65 fastback and need a little "beef" id opt to go with the g-force t-5 in ur situation u can have it built a number of ways to hold up to the specified power. a tko would be an easier and slightly cheaper way to go but since u have one of the early mustangs u would have to to do some transmission tunnel work in order to get things to fit right where as a g-force unit will bolt right in.

the moderndrive line kit was the most complete and best fitting kit for me(i have a 67) i have tried a number of other kits in other cars early on when people first started t-5 swapping.i def do recomend the modern driveline cross member its a very well built unit and have found it has been the strongest and has allowed the most exhaust clearance for me.do not use the R.M.P. cross member it has tons of flex and is not well made!

if u do decide to go cable clutch and dont mind drilling a hole in your firewall i also recomend the M.D. kit. but before u buy that do check out the cable kit from Ron Morris Performance (R.M.P.)they now offer one that doe not require you to cut a hole in the firewall but instead uses the facory 4spd pushrod hole. i am not sure if the R.M.P. kit has any sort of firewall adjust though.

as far as hydraulic goes i have seen it and it works well. but when i have done these swaps i have used the cable mainly cause i like the "feel" ofthe clutch pedal,i like the price (it is about half as much as the hyd)and i like the reliability(im not a fan of working on cars and if your hyd. slave fails the transmission is coming out to replace it) not to mention the cable does allow me to tailor where my clutch pedal grabs where as the hyd. unit is what it is after it is bled.

I hope this helps and i hope i wasnt "all over the place" on this one. but give bruce a call at modern driveline he is ready to do a g-force build i just recieved an email with a quote from him today. and last do not buy ur g-force from just anyone companies such as astro performance use cheap bearings which also could cause transmission failure where as bruce uses nothing but american made timken bearings!! personally my vote would be modern driveline all the way!!!
