      Intake Gaskets w/ Screens

I have seen the intake gaskets that have screens on the ports. Does anyone have any input on using these?

To me this sounds like a good idea because in the past I have actually had an air filter bolt break off, fall down into the runners, through the valves, and scratch the living hell out of a cylinder wall.

I am also planning on putting screens in the top valley of the engine block so no 'broken parts' can fall down into the bottom end.

Any input or suggestions on the intake gaskets would be great. I know I have seen these before. I looked in Jegs and Summit and could not find them listed though...

I don't see how these wouldn't puddle fuel and cause restriction

IMO they are a fad idea for a company to sell gaskets in a flooded market. Sure they address a potential problem but build the engine right and you will never have this problem. No factory or serious engine builder uses these, ever. Thats answer enough to just buy fel pro perma torque gaskets and be carefull where you leave your nuts!

I used a set on my 78 T/A. I never noticed any difference, until i pulled the intake after about a year of use. The screens were still there but instead of being flat they were sunken into the intake port, almost pulling the screens out of the gaskets, but not quite. This was only a street driven car, no racing. I would say not to use these based on my experience.

I buddy of mine ran these and was down on power. We pulled the intake to install a better one in hopes it would inprove the motors power. (performer changing to a dart cool can) We found the same problem of the screens pulling inward. If they are pulling in they are restricting flow. So we bolted on the old intake with fresh 1205 gaskets and the motor ran alot better.... We still swapped the cool can after we tested to see if the gaskets where the issue...

Summit sold these many years back but dumped them after a short period...

If you want to run a screen the proper place is before the air and fuel mix. I don't know if you can buy an air cleaner base with a screen or not.
