Which rear frame rails? F body

My rear frame rails on my 69 camaro need to be replaced. Im planning on using DSE's deep tub kit and their quadra-link. Since Im replacing them should I step up to some more serious rails from 21st century or competition engineering? I know I need to cut up my trunk. This is fine as its being replaced anyways. Or should I get a set from yearone, weld em in and then box em up? Thanks in advance

You can always put in an AME back half... they have a bunch to choose from, including a 3 link.

But if you are planning on a quadra link you will have to run near stock type. Not too sure the CE ones will work. You might want to call DSE and ask them what they would recommend.

i posted this on lateral-g.net and got some good results. i think im going to go with AME fabricated 2x4 rear frame rails to exactly match the factory rails. this way i can follow dse's instructions to install their tubs and quadra link. hopefully they can do it for me. in case they dont I found this place that will profile rails exactly to factory specs. they are pricey though

      Cool,

Just a tip. When you go to cut out the frame rails don't cut out the spot welds cause it will weaken the floor.

The frame rail is just a hat or U shape with kickouts. Just cut the top of the hat and leave the brim on the car. If the replacment rails are close it will give you something to weld to.

Why not just buy a complete AME 3 link or 4 link rear clip? They come complete jig welded and all the design work is done for you. After you add up buying the two set ups, having to jig weld your housing and then somewhow mate the 2 together you will would be 3/4 of the way already done with the AME piece at a significant savings.

Buy the parts for their use. DSE is great for stock suspension bolt on parts. AME is basically for what you are doing which is cutting up your car. To cut up your car and then bolt on parts is kind of a backwards step. With the AME you will get more ride height and spacing options. There is also a ton of saftey issues in welding suspension components in a high performance car which AME does for you.

im waiting for an email back to tell me the price.

i looked at AME rear clips.. i feel that the 3link will only give me the handling I want and the 4link will only give me the launch I want as it doesnt articulate, whereas the q-link gives me a little of both. If im wrong please tell me

Please call our sales department. We get hundreds of emails a day and it takes a long time to get through them. A simple phone call will get you all the info you need in just a couple minutes.

We have two suspensions that would fit your bill: the 3-link and triangulated 4-bar. Contrary to popular internet opinion, triangulated 4-bar suspensions can work nearly as well (say, 98%) as a 3-link in regards to roll bind. Our tri 4-bar has so little bind that I omit this factor when calculating spring and ARB rates. Also, it takes much less floor/trunk modification to fit this suspension.

So why do we offer a three link? Well three reasons. This type of suspension can be easily narrowed (minimum 32" outside frame width) for small cars with massive tires. Secondly, it also works for the person two is looking for the last 2 percent of performance and also wants to use heim joints.

how good of a launch will your tri 4 bar give me compare to say dse quadra link or another 4 link se-up. I want to be able to run low 10's with 700-850 hp at the crank.

That's difficult to say because I do not know the anti-squat geometry of our competitor's suspensions.

Honestly, the real factor will be the tires you choose. None of the available handing-type suspensions will compare to a true drag-race four-link.

Is the tri 4 bar rear clip a universal piece or can you make it contour as close as possible to the underside of a camaro? I already have a 9inch from competition engineering. Im assuming this will be ok and I will just need to weld the brackets onto it?

I get get it to follow the trunk floor very close to the original rails. One difference, however, is it will be 40" wide front to back...whereas the stock rails narrow to some 35.75" in front and 42" in back. You'll actually gain some tire clearance this way.

You can use your housing if you want, we can just supply the parts and you weld it yourself.

If your after drag #'s a 4 link is what you want, a Tri 4 bar or a 3 link, wont launch like you want, its a catch 22, you give some driveablity with the 4 link, but you give up straight line traction with a 3 link or tri 4 set up

Also when choicing frame rails, if you dont run a cage, then 2x4 is a must, if you do build a cage either will work with a 2x3 being slightly lighter
