I believe the standard setup is 9.5" wide with 5.5" of backspacing. There are a bunch of '67/68 F-bodies on the wheel database running all kinds of different setups.

No problem! Even though that is the generally used wheel size and b/s, I would mesaure on your car just to be safe. Every car is a little bit different.

Why would you run 0.25" less backspacing just to be safe? You're running a risk of rubbing the wheel lips without enough backspacing.

You can always add a spacer if you have too much, but if you don't have enough backspacing the only solutions are shortening the rearend, or adding fender flares. The spacer is a lot cheaper. Well I guess there is one more choice and that is to use a narrower tire. I'm not sure how narrow you can go on a 9.5" wide rim. Maybe a 265 or 255.

I have 9.5" wide with 5.5" b.s. on 275s. No rubbing on the inside (I think I could even go .25" deeper and still have enough additional clearance), but it's hard to tell how close I am to the outer lip because the rear springs make the car sit too high right now. I think worst case I may need to roll the fender lip.

Also, keep in mind if you switch to disc brakes I think it pushes the wheels out another 0.25" per side.

amcmike is right. Always error on the side of getting to much backspacing, especially on the rear. As you can always ad a spacer. Not enough, and you'll could be making coffee tables out of your custom wheels. lol

Actually, some have gone with 5.75" backspacing, with no problems. Drum brakes allow more bs.

I used the typlical 9.5 with 5.5" bs.
