      MSD boxes suck...

Alright - I'm not one to bash products or anything but I have this one particular MSD box that is in the shop... sad part is I hate it for doing its job...

anyone else ever get zapped by a MSD plug wire ??? is it just me or does it just hurt a hell of a lot more than normal (added spark and all)

yeah thats why I seldom use stock trans dip sticks. Way to close and conductive for me.

Its not just the shock, its the duration of the shock...kinda lingers abit.

Kinda' gets you in the stomach a little bit don't it!!?? LOL!
When I was a newbie to cars, I thought I would kill the car by pulling the coil wire (had a MSD 6A, Comp 9000 Unilite and Promaster coil).
Do you want to ask how that went?!!? LOL
Then I was stupid enough at a later date to try and find the miss in the engine by pulling plug wires one at a time.........I couldn't find it after the first attempt!! LOL!
I am a slow learner! LOL

Remember that when your electrician bills you.
That's a quick controlled series of hi voltage wacks and really isn't that bad. 277 with wet boots is much worse! When your ears ring you know you came close.

I had a bad experience once with an MSD-6A box when I was younger. My friend Dennis and I had hooked one up to my car and had apparantly done something wrong with the wiring because when I went to shut the car off...it wouldn't stop running. Mind you I was 18 at the time. He suggested that I pull the coil wire to cut the electricity to the spark plugs. And like a dumb ass I went ahead and did it.

It was an experience that I hope I never revisit ever again. My arm was numb for about 20 minutes afterward, I thought I had killed it.

I'm sure glad I'm LS1 now and don't have to worry about that crap.

When I first got my car going (using a 6AL) my car would not shut off. I tried everything, the key, battery cable etc...knowing what I finally had to do (pull the coil wire) I literally stood there for about five minutes letting the car just run trying to get up the nerve. I got the biggest pair of insulated plyers I had and finally pulled it...I guess I got lucky, no shock! but I can imagine how that must feel for those of you that have had that happen.

Then look forward to following torrture techniques:

5-10 second tazer (length depends on who your instructor is)
Gas chamber (tear gas so prepare to loose your lunch)
OC aka pepper spray (im not gonna lie this one hurts so bad)

I still remember my older brother getting zapped by the Accel BEI box on his V8 Pinto back in the day ... that certainly made him wide awake early in the morning, after bouncing off the garage wall !! LOL

Ever see someone grab the top of a magneto to adjust the timing and have their hand lock shut from the voltage spikes? Funny as all heck... all he could get out was tu-tu-tur-turn-it-it-off-off-off! Perfectly in sync with wherever the voltage was jumping from each revolution of the rotor!

My friend got zapped by his magneto once.

It went something like... Don't crank it! What?! Crank it over?! (didn't hear the "Don't" part) ZAP! Instant conductor!
