I am going to bet you will be told to use the LT4 "HOT" cam. But to use it you have to use 1.6 rockers. And if you do the math, the regular cam with 1.6 rockers is not that much different than the "HOT" cam. I bet you will still need to do some tuning with that cam. You might just try changing rockers & see if you notice a difference.

go with a cc305 or 306, then call bryan at pcm for less and get a mail order tune. Trust me its worth it.

I just started my LT1 with a cc305 over the weekend. It is definitely an improvement over stock and over the previous custom grind I had in the engine. These are a few good choices: LT4 Hot (as mentioned above), cc305 or cc306 (though the cc306 is a little big and absolutely will require head mods, like new springs, rockers, etc), the zz9 cam is also a good choice if it's still available. I had SLP's biggest cam in my last hot LT1 (51010). It produced just over 300 RWHP on a chassis dyno without optimizing the tune and had stock heads with comp cheapo rockers and guide plates. Hth!!

I love the CC305 in mine, it ran OK without a tune, but tuning it has made a world of difference to it.

I had an LT1 with bolt ons and mildy ported heads. Went with a Bret Bauer custom cam as I wanted killer sound. It was in a street rod and sound was important. Let me tell you it idled failrly smooth but sounded unreal. It also blew away anything else I had driven with a close combo. Bret is a great guy to do business with and will have it made to your exact specs. And you do not have to feel bad asking that you want it to sound bad if that is more your goal than top end performance. Add a PI Converter and my car was an animal. Best 2 investments. Actually the price was about the same as list for Comp Cams as that is who does his grinding but then again that was 2 years ago. Technical support always answered same day!

Bret usually is on LS1.com. Tell him Brian who used to have the Rambler sent you. I have his email if needed.

That's interesting info - can you elaborate on OK without a tune? I hope to get mine tuned (one day), but it'll be awhile.

Well I thought it ran fine, and was happy with what I had. Tuned mainly the part throttle range and it's a lot quieter and smoother. Feels a lot quicker too. I used a laptop and logged the 45 minute journey to work and back for a week to make sure it was spot on.

Thanks for the info. I will have to check into tuning when I can afford it.

For me it was both. I knew I didn't want a smooth idle since it would be in a 68 Camaro. It HAD to have a nice lumpy idle and it also had to have better than decent performance. I haven't driven mine with the new cam yet. Hopefully by Saturday! I am doing a lot more than motor work; replaced all the shocks, new front sway bar, brake repair work, a little tuning, and some trouble shooting.

I have been running a cam from Gallant Technical Performance in my 97 SS for several years; the GTP 6. With 1.6 rockers, its .568/.592, 236/242 at .050, 112 lsa. It sounds great, and made around 400 RWHP with a set of LPE heads on a stock shortblock. Its in my 383 now. I'm running an older tune from Atlanta Chassis Dyno (Brad Brand), but need to get it updated for the new motor. Never tried it with the stock computer, though as cheap as a PCM For Less tune is now there is no reason not to tune it.

What's going on Geoff! This is Joe Hinds from years ago in GAFBA!

Hi Joe! I was thinking "Wow, Blast from the past when I saw Brad's name" then wow again when I see your name! Busy busy these days with work (boring stuff not worth mentioning). Obviously my excitement is the 68 Camaro with an LT1. FUN TO DRIVE! On topic, I have my 68 running (obviously). The cc305 is a great sounding cam and comes on like a monster after the scream queen of a cheesy B movie around 2500-2800 RPM. I've been teaching my wife to drive the 6 speed so when it was my turn to drive, I showed her "what it would do" from 3-5th gear. I think it surprised her. The cam swap was a definite crowd pleaser.

If you haven't bought a cam yet .. I would look into the XFI comp cams grinds .. ground on a 113 more efi friendly.

On the other hand I ran a cc306 with 1.52 rockers, LT4 heads/intake and shorty headers that made 374rwhp 373trq
