      RTTH 0.1 - California Style

It didn't last three days. Heck, it barely lasted three hours. But three '68 Camaros can't be all bad.

Thanks to Mike (Mkelcy) and Chad (Chad-1stGen) for an impromptu run up Angeles Crest Highway this morning. We met a 6:30am and headed up 27-miles of twisty-curves and 4000'+ elevation change to Newcomb's Ranch http://www.newcombsranch.com/home_iframe.htm for breakfast. The sun coming up over the mountains early in the morning is spectacular. The weather was perfect and the company great. Both Mike and Chad have great cars and are super guys. Thanks also to Mike for being our "Rabbit."

Sorry for the not-so-great driving pics. It's kinda hard to steer, shift, juggle the Ipod, and shoot pics at the same time.

BTW, Chad gets extra points for clipping a wayward tennis shoe laying in the middle of the road and his slalom routine through some tire-eating rocks.

It was great to meet Chad and to finally meet Carl (I've been reading and learning from his posts for years now) and to have some company on the Angeles Crest.

We need to make this a monthly event. Having one of the great mountain roads in your backyard does impose a certain obligation on those of us located in Southern California.

As for the slalom, that one big rock right before Mt. Wilson sure got my attention. I could just imagine my oil pan ripped open from front to back. Fortunately, no traffic the other way made for a safe swerve.

Now thats the spirit!!! I'm tired of hearing people whine about "why can't they have that event near me...wha...wha...wha", especially from Californians. Get out there and create you own events. Bill has proven that it can be done with some work, and I think that is what nobody wants to do. Remember the original RTH1 had only 11 cars or so.
Congratulations guys, hopefully its the start of another great event for the PT guys. Maybe I need to start thinking 'bout sponsering a "Run Thru the 'Hood" here in Chiacgo...LOLOL

Ha ha thanks for the "extra points!" Here I was hoping nobody noticed clipping that thing.

Thanks for having me along. Mike really knows that road and scoots around those turns quick. It was good I went last... those rock walls and drop offs can be intimidating as I still feel my car out.

I'm certainly game to go again.

Way to go Carl and crew. Nothing like getting out and driving your car----NOTHING. Sounds like the start of an event to me!

DAMN IT!! Missed it. At least I got the '69 put to stretch her legs yesterday afternoon. We definitely need to make this a more frequent event!

Do you still believe in all the things that you stood by before? Are you out there on the front lines, or at home keeping score?
Do you care to be the layer of the bricks that seal your fate? Would you rather be the architect of what we might create?

There's some talk in the "So Cal area, where's everybody hang at? " thread about doing it again on November 18.

Well we could try and make it a once a month thing or even bi-monthly if enough interest.

While I HATE getting up early the nice thing about leaving early like that is you get back down the hill by 9:30am and so have your whole day ahead of you. That and of course there are a lot less cars on the road that early so less chance of one of em holding up your fun.

The next two weekends don't have anything super definitive on my calendar and I've got the 18th penciled down.
