      Welding in your G-Bar

After welding in my G-bar I started thinking how about hard it would be for guys with little welding experience to get quality welds in the tight areas needed to secure the system properly.

Here's a couple things that help the job go well.

      1. Make sure you grind off every bit of powder coating (a little off the surrounding area as well.) in the weld area. Your weld will bubble up and could blow a hole in your frame if the arc comes in contact with it.

      2. Turn your machine up!, welds without proper penetration are worthless. Don't try to weld more than 2" at any one time. High heat and long continuous welds will blow a hole in your frame.

(I think the following could be a great remedy for the tight confined weld on top of the plate.)

      3. The top of the mounting bracket is really hard to weld. Your mig nozzle is up against the body not allowing you to direct the wire exactly where it's needed. (at least mine was)

Instead of welding the the entire top of the bracket, you could weld the sides and bottom only. Using a 1/2" drill and the existing holes in the bracket, drill completely through the frame. Cut a piece of 1/2" round stock 2-1/4" long and weld it to both the bracket and frame.
You could clean it up with a grinder and it would be almost invisible.

Any thought or opinions on the last part would be appreciated.
