      72 cutlass 442 Clone

I am looking to give my 72 Cutlass the pro-touring look. I have already purchased big brake kit for the front to convert from drum to disk. My question is rim size. What is the widest rim I can tuck in the rears and fronts. I have seen this cutlass on cardomain w/ 20x 8.5's coys wheels looked great. I am looking to put 9.5 or 10's if possible. Maybe a 18/20 combo. Any suggestions, oh also the brake kit came with 2inch dropped spindles.. Suggestions....

70-72 Cutlasses have huge wheel wells in the back. You can easily put a 10" wide rim in the back, and probably tuck a 285 tire with the perfect backspacing.

I have a 69 Cutlass, and I'm going to try and fit a 295-45-17 in the back, with the car lowered 2" all around. I'm told 68's and 69's have less room in the wheel wells, so it might be tough. I owned a 70 and a 69 Cutlass at the same time for a few months, but never compared.

Up front, depending how low you go, and how tall a tire you choose... a 245-45-18 should tuck up easily, and work great on a 8.5" wide rim. Be careful up front, some brake upgrades push the wheels out a little bit due to 'wider' rotors. This would require more backspacing when compared to a stock set up. I have 12" 1LE rotors up front and they add 3/8" of width on each side.

I had a 71 442. I ran 10" wide rims with 295s on it. you have to get the backspacing correct though.
