      Chevelle Front Wheel Backspace.

I am currous on what most are running for backspace. I was having a talk about this with jody and his 64 chevelle. Now about 9 years ago Scott Gillman Ran a 275/40r17 bf goodrich tire on a budnick 17x9.5 rim with 6" of backspace with a tall spindle coversion. now I would love to do the same but from what I here is with a 245 tire with 4.75 backspace on a 17x8 rim there is about a 1/2 of clearance. so Like i said list your backspacing.

On the chevelle were going to run a 275/35/18 18x9.5 fronts with 5.5-5.75" backspacing and the rear will be 315/30/18 with 6.25" backspacing

I don't think that it'll help for you as I think there is less clearence on the earlier chevelles. Mines a 72'. Haven't ordered the wheels yet but I have the tires and I'll be making the final mockup with the wheelrite tool pretty soon.

      On a 65, I wouldn't run anything wider than a 245 on a 8" with a 4.75" BS. The 68-72's have way more room than the earlier 64-65 yrs.

Jon is correct. That's about the max for the front of a 64-65. 66-72's can handle a much larger combo.
