      DC Control problem

I have no idea how to get in touch with Brian Baskin at DC Controls about this problem and from what I've read it would be a waste of my time to try. So I thought I would post my problem here and maybe he'll read it and offer a solution or perhaps someone else has had this problem before.

I walked into my garage this morning and heard what sounded like a grunting noise. I walked around looking for where the noise was coming from and discovered that my Mark VIII fan was trying to start up...then stop...then start up...then stop. I haven't driven the vehicle in maybe three weeks. It's as though the DC Control unit is trying to start the fan and then immediately shutting off like current is bleeding on then off. I just unplugged one of the leads to the fan. I let it sit for an hour or so then plugged it back up and heard a click in the DC unit. I started to walk away thinking something maybe reset inside the unit and all was well...NO, in a moment it started doing it again.

I'm sure it's internal and there is no way of fixing it short of replacing the unit.
Here's your opportunity to make a liar out of me and send me a functioning unit for free. You and I both know that's not going to happen...is it Brian baskin?

So I will be ordering an Spal unit from G-Machines soon and enjoying smashing my DC Controls unit with a three pound hammer and talking bad about you to anyone who will listen if you don't make this right Brian. Are you there Brian?

Maybe you could try emailing him, there are one or two addresses on his website you could give a shot. I am sure he would work with you on this thing, yes you may have to wait a little bit.

Good luck with it. Hopefully mine does not have the same fate as yours.

Charge your battery and see if the problem goes away. A lot of microprocessor controllers will act funny if your battery is low. Sitting for three weeks could allow it to run down enough to cause a problem.

I don't know Brian, and couldn't find anything negative about him on this site, but it seems like you're coming off a little harsh having not contacted him directly yet.

Also, it would be wise to disconnect the battery from the car before hooking up the charger. Some chargers can fry electronics if the battery has internal problems. Good luck on it.

I'm sorry, but the way I'm reading your post it sounds like you are too damn lazy to even attempt to contact Brian and so instead you are going to start slinging crap about him. It makes you sould like a spoiled little bitch.

You really haven't even tried troubleshooting the problem, you just posted that you want him to send you a brand new unit for free. Really, what kind of crap is that?

Where did you get the unit from? Is it still under warranty?
Have you got the instructions that come with the unit?

There's nothing inside the DCC controller that will click, it's more than likely your voltage regulator that's clicking, which is draining your battery, the resulting fluctuating voltage is causing the DCC to do what it's doing. Given that you've had the controller for at least a couple of years now, and you stated yourself only a couple of months ago that it worked flawlessly, don't you think this is just a little bit ridiculous? If you would like to smash it with a hammer, have at it.

Let's keep the personal attacks out of it. Brian may be difficult to get a hold of, but always comes through. Just read some threads, then check your battery.

Do you still believe in all the things that you stood by before? Are you out there on the front lines, or at home keeping score?
Do you care to be the layer of the bricks that seal your fate? Would you rather be the architect of what we might create?

A couple of people say try to get in touch with Brian through the email addresses on the site...There are no addresses on that black screen.

My voltage regulator is internal in my CSI alternator on the opposite side of the engine from the DC Controller where the click sound came from...perhaps it was the fan clicking trying to start up again when I first tried plugging the fan up again.

Quoting Brian: "Given that you've had the controller for at least a couple of years now, and you stated yourself only a couple of months ago that it worked flawlessly, "

You are correct Brian, I did say that and it's the truth...with the exception that I said that a couple of months ago...it was over a year and a half ago maybe you just got around to catching up on reading your emails a couple of months ago.

I appreciate the responses and I will investigate my battery charge although I recently charged it before the incident occurred.

You people who defend Brian may have had a joyous experience with your controller order...receiving it in a timely manner...getting responses to your emails (Communication)...etc...

You know if I hadn't had such a bad initial experience with Mr. Baskin I might have not been so harsh but once bitten twice shy. I did do a search of the site looking for similiar problems. I didn't find any posts pertaining to the problem I have but I had to read a lot of posts trying to glean the info and what I read sounded like the same old negative remarks about "NO Communication".

I hope the rest of you have a better experience than I have had with communicating with him. I've said it before and I'll say it again, DC Controls needs better customer relation skills and if DC Controls has grown to the point that they can't keep up with orders...then hire some more people or farm out the work...I've said that too.

The product is fine and I've never said differently but there is more to doing business than making a good product especially when it's all done long distance.

I would have called him in the begining two years ago but Brian offered no phone number. I understand he offers a phone number now. I have also read that it is always busy or rings off the hook.

It could also be that the temp sender is sensing the wrong temp and yes trying to start the fan.

When it is doing it disconnect the temp sender or thermocouple.

I run this unit as well. Love it.
