Another newb onboard
I'm a member of several car forums. Mostly, though, I hang out at the probetalk.com site as I own two Probe GT's. I stumbled across this forum while reading an article in the September issue of Popular Hot Rodding. Good find, I think!
Anyway, I'm a builder, of sorts. I've built a handful of customs over the years, including several custom scooters. The most recent custom I was just about to finish was my brother's '63 VW bug. I gutted it, added a 2x4" frame, 1-1/2" rollcage, widened the rear fenders 6", built a rear 'hump' with an electrically-operated, drop-down access door, that housed the fuelcell. We put an '85 'Vette suspension under it (narrowed the rear 7"). The motor was a '69 327cid with a dual-quad tunnelram & Holley 650's. I'll post pics of it later.
My current (read FOREVER) project is my '65 VW Karmann Ghia. I'd gutted the body, split it down the middle & widened it 12", full tube frame and rollcage, tilt rear, tilt front, and suicide doors. The motor is a '70 Olds Toronado GT 455, mounted in a mid-engine configuration (this is the 400hp/500pft motor!). I chose Chip Foose Nitrous II wheels (8" front/10" rear) mounted with Sumitomo HTRZ II 245/40ZR17 & 275/40ZR17's. A few years ago, I'd talked to the ProCharger people (ATI ?) who told me that their P600B and an intercooler, and dropping my 10.25:1 pistons for 8.75:1's, would give me around 850-900hp, on pump gas, and idle dead smooth. That is where I'm heading, once I get the beast running first. I'll post pics of it later.
