Roots style vs centrifugal

I see alot of you guys running a centrifugal supercharger and I was just wondering why? Whats the pros and cons of each style?

Packaging is a big plus for centrifugal, also most have less power absorbsion then roots blowers making them more net effective.

A big 6-71 blower or an "under hood" blower.
A roots blower develops instant power. A centrifugal charger needs to be wound up (so to speak).

The under hood blower like the ones in mustangs. I also understand that a centrifugal charger is essentialy a belt driven turbo. Frank I dont understand by what you meen by packaging with the centrifugal being its off to the side and all the piping thats needed.

Packageing as in staying under the hood. Most roots blowers (except LS based roots blowers like Magna or Kenny bell), either end up sticking through the hood, or are to small to make any power.

As for pumbing, it is a pretty short pipe from the blower to the carb or T Body unless you intercool. And when you add intercooling, nbow you have a HUGE advantage over the roots blower in possible power.

Ok I get you now. To me they just look funny just stuck off to the side. Has any one done twin centrifugal chargers before now that would be interesting?

Other than the visual impact, there's no need to go twin centri blowers when there are larger, properly-sized units to choose from by Vortech and Procharger. Especially if you intercool, and with duals you damn sure better, the plumbing becomes even more complex.

Centri blowers are, as said above, basically belt driven turbos. Unlike turbos though, since they are belt driven they can not spin up in the midrange independently of crank speed, so you don't get that super-fast tip in of midrange power like a properly sized turbo setup.

But they're great on engines which are powerful before they even get a blower, especially if they are built for some rpm, like maybe 6500 or 7000. Then you just have a motor which seems to grow in size from say a 383ci to a 600ci from 4000 to 6800 rpm.

I'm still battling belt slip issues on my homemade setup with a 383 and Vortech T-trim, but last week I finally hit 8.7# of boost after the intercooler and the pull was phenomenal from 5000 up. I can't wait until I feel the 12# that's projected. There's a guy on LS1TECH.com with the same blower on a smaller motor that's getting 687rwhp and 560rwt out of his 355 and T-trim!
