      possible new project car

      While I haven't forgotten the town car( how could I) with the wife always saying what about my car. The town car is hers.



      The new toy I found is a 70 Ford maverick. It is in good shape body wise, It has had the 3 on the tree converted to the floor. It should have the I6 in it..( haven't opened the hood.) the sign says $850 obo.

      Thoughts on what to do is:
      302 V-8
      5-speed manual (maybe a t-56 6 speed)
      big brakes
      lowered suspension.
      Maybe the global west kit, ( need to suport our sponsors)
      8 point roll bar.
      Etc
      Etc
      Etc

      I've always had an eye for the Mavericks. Seems to me they are virtually the same under the sheet metal as the early Mustangs. That would make it easy to find chassis parts.
      About ten years ago I saw one that had been mini-tubbed. It had a lot of tire under the back end of it.

      Maverick

      Hey Tim, that sounds like a pretty cool plan. I'm not much of a Ford guy, but have always kind of liked the Mavs. I think it would look good lowered and big wheeled. The price is right too. Can't find much vintage iron in good shape these days. I was just back in AZ for Christmas and saw the car that was given to my buddy by his neighbor. It is a 71 Buick Skylark and the body is in incredible shape. No rust, straight bumpers, and only one tiny dent. We got to talking about making a sleeper out of it. 540" BBC, th400, 12 bolt, steel wheels, era correct Buick coler scheme. We will see if it ever happens, We both have our hands full with our Camaros. Oh well, I say go for the Mav. It would be cool to see something else original done up PT.

      the first car I tried to build (late 80s) was a maverick. I did not have the $ or
      experience to successfully complete it. I got a lincoln versailles 9" rear w/
      disc brakes, granada front disc brake swap, 4 speed toploader, warmed up
      small block, etc. I realize in retrospec that it was "pro-touring" ;-)

      keep in mind that even a ford small block is a tight fit in a maverick. 351W
      will squeeze in there, but anything else will require you to cut out the
      shock towers. underneath, it is pretty much mustang/falcon components.

      also, you don't have to go too wild on the engine to get them to scoot -- they
      weigh almost nothing.

      (following up my own post)

      another advantage is that the factory graphics of the early "grabber"
      models are quite attractive, cf:

      you'd also want the 71/72 grill instead of the 70 grill - it is very similar to
      the 1970 mustang grill. it should not be too hard to find.
