      Hydra boost lesson learned

OK, List this under "learning from your mistakes" or short time memory. Here's something for those who are contemplating putting a Hydro boost on there ride. If you are running a reduced or lower-pressure/volume power steering pump, like I was, Hydro boost doesn't like it. Here's what happens. When you hit the brakes you loose power steering, when you turn the wheel tightly you loose power to the brakes. Paul's web site refers to this as "Crosstalk" and has allot of info regarding this. I will be changing the pressure valve setting in my Saginaw P-type pump back to stock settings after this little adventure.
This is something I did to reduce the pressure of the pump to increase the effort, of course I did this before I installed the Hydro boost and the SC and C Stage 2 kit so it completely slipped my mind.

If you desire reduced pressure for your steering maybe you could use one of the inline adjustable pressure valves just before the steering box. As a side benefit they're adjustable. Wish I could tell you who makes the inline valve but I can't remember.

Heidt's offers one that I'm familiar with, but I'll try the car out with the new front control arms and new alignment settings this week. I think with 5 degrees of caster will put a little more effort/road feel in the steering, as well as the 600 box.

What about a flow reducer which will just drop the gpm as opposed to dropping the pressure?

Ok, Lesson learned part 2. After a talk with Paul at Hydratech we came to the conclusion that the lines at the unit were hooked up backwards.
Oooops. Paul said not to feel bad, he did the same thing a couple of months ago to one of his own. He also added that they will be updating his instructions. Now with the lines hooked up correctly... HOLY CRAP!!!!!

UH sorry to disapoint but the extra caster doesnt give more feel or higher effort, more positive caster gives easier steering feel.
It makes the steering feel ,,lighter, more nimble.
Caster more nedative gives a heavier ,stiffer steering feeling when you drive,,, but negative caster will also make a car less stable so the more positive caster you have will make it more stabile at speed and have better return too.

I was always under the impression that greater positive caster would increase steering effort. Correct me if I'm wrong, guys.

Whatever it does, the end result is awesome. The 600 box has a great feel and with the SCandC kit together with a Hydo-boost I got it all

I installed a hydratech hydroboost system in our 69 Firebird. First, Paul is great to work with. He has been very helpful.
Everything on our brake system is brand new. What we learned is how sensitive the hydroboost is to the brake pedal adjustment. Initially we did not have the clevis set right. This caused preloading (hydroboost on) so the brakes dragged. They dragged badly. Once we adjusted the clevis (all the way so we have a high brake pedal) it works. The brakes are very strong. I've had 2 experienced car guys (engine builder and tranmission guy) drive the car. Both said the brake setup is the best they have ever seen/felt.

Just to clarify what my mistake was, The PS Pump pressure was not the cause of my problem and in fact it was just the lines being switched that was causing my issues. Once the lines were switch(nothing else)made the system perform properly and I must emphasize PERFORM .
