Engine Builder - Recommendation Needed ::

I currently have a 396BB in my 67 Camaro. I bought the car with this engine. It's leaking oil and is kinda tired if you ask me...

In a couple months I plan on pulling it out and replacing it and/or getting it rebuilt. I want to get aprox. 600-700 streetable horsepower. Would like a good amount of torque because it will be for the street.

I have seen the 572 GM motors, but I have heard a couple horror stories about them... Mainly with GMs poor tolerance range. I don't want to order an engine, spend the time dropping it in, and then find out the damn engine journals are too tight.

My question is this... Does anyone have a recommendation as to where I can order a complete engine? Is a better opion to have the 396 pulled and take it to a local shop to see what they can do? Maybe have a local shop build a 572 for me even...

Any help and/or suggestions are appreciated. I am looking to keep it around $10-$12k max.

      Thanks!
