      Chevelle CONVT. Chassis Help Needed

Hey guys havent been on in a while but, Im deployed right now. Im going back home in september and want to start working on my new project a 64 chevelle convertible. Its a good daily driver but im planning on a full frame off mild pro touring treatment. I have two questions. The cars chassis has rust and was patched with angle iron. In short in needs to be replaced. Does an el camino chassis, 4 door chevelle or station wagon chassis work since they are boxed as well or are they convertible chassis a one deal thing. The second question is there is no room in the back for a decent sized tire. Can a convertible be mini tubbed or does the top frame get in the way. Any help is appreciated and if you know where to get a chassis id love to buy it. Thanks in advance.

As for the frame from a wagon or ElCamino, verify this with the Chevelle guys at teamchevelles.com. As for mini tubbing, check out Bills GTO on our site. It is a mini tubbed 65 GTO convertible and we posted a bunch of the under construction pictures of the tubbibg.

If you need any help at all. feel free to write or call (although since you are overseas I expect you will write, LOL!)

An Elcamino will work, I think the last 4 inches or so of the frame needs to be modified/ cut. A hardtop or 4 door frame can be used but it will need to be boxed to prevent sag.

Believe the wheelbase on the 4-doors and wagons is longer than the wheelbase on 2-doors (or perhaps that's only on the later Chevelles).

64-67 were all 115" wheel base and all will interchange. Yes,Camino and wagons are 4" or so longer behind rearend. If you can find one,
any other 64-67 GM a-body frame is the same,so B.O.P.will work also.
The 65 Z-16 used a convertable frame, which I believe all convertable frames have a extra set of body mounts also. 16 total.

Here's the article on how Mark Stielow mini-tubbed his '64 Malitude for a 315/35/17: Malibu Mini-tub
