Project FNQUIK

[David Sloan]

If you don't see me post for a while, that means she did. I be recovering somewhere quiet. lol

that’s funny Wayne!
but I have meet your wife, you got a good one!

[Motown 454]

She's the best! more than I deserve I can be a pain in the a$$ sometimes lol

Since I got my Tires Michelin 345-30-19 I've been wanting to test fit. Mike at MCC built the rear and said it would be tight, Well he did an awesome job they fit with plenty of room. I worried they might be trouble, but today the car went to the guy who's doing the Chicane kit. He's also doing the exhaust so he needed the tire to make sure the tail pipe would clear. When I got to his place I asked him to try it while I was there, to either let me know I was all set or if I needed an antacid for the gut ache I would have if it was too tight. What a relief the ant acid stays in the cabinet!
Here are some pictures of them in the car.

I could fit my hand between the tire and the fender as far as my knuckles. He's also going to weld the DSE frame connector brackets to the sub, they'll bolt to the connector.

[David Sloan]

Looking good Wayne!
Getting closer!
I’m on hold till I get all the honey dos done!

[ryeguy2006a]

Those wheels look great Wayne. Wow that's a lot of tire! What's happening to the M-Pars?

[Motown 454]

Ryan There staying until it’s painted.
I got some pictures of the progress on the frame connectors

He still has some welding and then he’ll dress them up.

[TANKMASTERJ]

Built frame connectors or purchase?
Tie in looks good.
I didn't weld any into my fellow when I did the floor I don't know why but I didn't. I kind of like the BMR bolt ins so I'm thinking of purchasing them and then fab whatever is needed to tie them to my speedtech front sub

[Motown 454]

The frame connectors are DSE welded in the floor. When I started it was going to be a complete restoration, then I found this site and came over to the dark side ( as far as keep it stock guys go ) and there was no looking back. Lol

Yeah that story sounds all too familiar. But in the end we have some nice cars.

[Motown 454]

thumper isn't that the truth!

Here's a picture of the distance from the frame to the tire.

Welder @akuma.fab said the distance was about 3/4" at that spot of the picture and up above at the closest is 1/2". No measurement at the outside yet.

I just got some pictures of the work on my exhaust, he made an X pipe to fit around the 4l85. This trans is a lot longer than a turbo 350 Here's a few pictures.

Here are a few pictures of it where the X pipe is going on the car.

This has me concerned. I'm planning to have the exhaust coated, I don't think they can do anything for the the flex coupler. I'm going to make a heat shield if there's room, I'll also put heat shield over the trans cable.

Some of his TIG work.

[Vimes]

I like that, built in driveshaft loop. If the U-joint pops it'll bang around but you won't high-jump through the air.

Also, those flex pipes don't have to go there, they just have to be somewhere between the engine and the first solid exhaust mounting point on the body/frame. You could move them a foot or so further back and put a thinner coated pipe where those are now. You'll get more clearance for the heat shield for the trans lines that way as well.

[TANKMASTERJ]

The tig does look great.
Wayne thee car looks killer. Nice progress
Jason

[ryeguy2006a]

Fantastic update Wayne! That tig work looks amazing!

[Motown 454]

Thanks guys!

The X pipe necks down to a little over 3" so I talked to him and he's going to make one that is bigger at the X to increase flow.

[ryeguy2006a]

Good move. I was thinking that when I saw the post, but figured that guy must know what he's doing. It's a shame because those welds look amazing.

[Motown 454]

I got the car back from the welder, partially done. He did the sub frame connectors and the exhaust but, said he couldn't do the main thing I wanted done, the coil over conversion. It ended up being a lesson learned that I don't seem to be getting through this Portuguese Cabeca.
Now it's time to find someone else to do it. Again

I got some work on the plumbing for the heatexchanger The lower tubing at the bottom was easy three 90's welded up from pump to exchanger.

Here's the bottom tubing

The top for the return was a little harder finding room for the tubing, the A/C line and the RS door. A little trim on the door, re arranging the A/C line and a hole through the rad support with an AN fitting for the hose. Making the hose fit on the supercharger around the fuel rail crossover. Everything will either be anodized or painted.

Next post will be the exhaust pics.

[charliebob]

Strange that such a good welder would not fabricate coilover brackets.

[TANKMASTERJ]

Good to see an update on it wayne.
Definitely frustrating when you take it somewhere in and spend and don't get it what your after.
A lesson I've learned to several times.
Progress is progress though and the car looks killer to Jason

Here's some shots of the exhaust completed. Better a little late than never.

Looks Great
