      Historical plates. ??

I need plates since my birthday just past but I think I may get historical plates for the nova. They are only $18 and are good for 50 years with no stickers to buy every year.
      BUT

There are many restrictions like only to be driven to shows and parades, No joy riding. You can drive to have it serviced or to get gas. BUt I see alot of these plates on cars just driving around.

Should I shouldnt I. Standard plated are $45 and going up every year.

Nothing says "I built this" better than tool marks and dykem blue..

yes, getting service and gassed up. LEO's aren't enforcing it, your yearly mileage questionnaire does...we know how to fix that... im thinking of doing the same cause I rarely drive mine.

Here in South Carolina, vintage or antique plates are meant for vehicles that are limited in their time on the road. However they just passed a law that allows the use of same model year plates that act as regular tags with no restrictions, but all of the normal tag and registration fees apply. I bought a set of original "1969" South Carolina plates that I plan on using once mine hits the road. Other states have been allowing this for years.

In MD you can get historic tags w/o any mileage restrictions. These are mine....

You can get Hot Rod tags but I believe there are restrictions for driving at night with those. Also, you can get old tags (like your 1969) and run with them as long as you have a set of "real" tags in the car registered for that car.

Also, you can run these tags as long as you have "real" tags registered and in the car.

      69 Pony,

I would love to get a set of repro plates for my cars, so how can I ensure I will not go to jail for this, any documentation or MVA website links I can use to back this up? I also assume the repro plates would need to be the same # as the real tags? Any information appreciated!

      Thanks,

Just google local sec of state. They should have a section of retro plates and what process to follow. It's easy as 123.

I do believe there is a section on MD's MVA website or call them. You have to get real plates but they need not be historic. Once you get them you find a set of repo's you like and tell them. That simple and you dont' have to have the same #'s. For example my buddy has regular tags and registration in his car and repo plates with 6T7GTO on his goat. If you are stopped you have to show the real tags and registration....

There are many cars in MD running old plates... Another buddy has original 1971 plates on his 71 She-velle he purchased at Carlisle. Same deal - real tags and registration in the car.

I love how they don't ship CA plates to CA addresses!

Do you still believe in all the things that you stood by before? Are you out there on the front lines, or at home keeping score?
Do you care to be the layer of the bricks that seal your fate? Would you rather be the architect of what we might create?
