      Vented gas cap

Does a vented gas cap for a 69 firebird/camaro let air into the tank? I just reinstalled my gas tank with a sump and it is getting pressurized. The gas cap I have lets pressure into the tank but not out. Not sure if this is vented cap or not?

Sounds like a non vented. This will cause flooding after being driven for a while. Been there, done that.

I have efi and was running a fuel cell before. Wanted to put my tank back in so I could have a trunk. I have a sending unit with a vent line on it but with a full tank gas was coming out of it so I had to cap it.

The trick for the vented cap is to let it suck in airt not vent to atomosphere. The tank is suposed to be vented either through a charcoal canister or one of those steel vapor cans so it can condense and go back to the tank.
You should have seen one in certain cars behind the rear seat, those were very early vapor recovery.
I am actually working on a charcoal canister/vapor collection system so that rodders can still maintain the basic emissions and hopefully if they look good enough and I can work things out right it will save fuel from venting out and actually increase mileage.
A buddy had a Camaro and he ripped all the vapor recovery stuff out and letting his gas vent to the air and lost 2 mpg.
See it still had the FI and return type fuel system and the heat from the engine compartment was enough to waste the fuel vapors.
The system I am working on has a small pump that can pull a vacuum or place a small preasure and utilize a vapor/pruge solenoid to maintain a static tank preasure and contain the vapor in a charcoal canister to be burned as you cruise.
IF it works well enough the set up should get a EPA pass to be retrofit onto non emission cars without having to have EO numbers as the setup will have no real effect on emissions except to reduce them and save fuel.
See the big trick is the fuel heats and the vapors get trapped in the canister then after you start the car the purge solenoid opens and lets the engine burns the fuel vapor as you drive till it timers out then the vlave will switch to sucking the vapors from the tank.
Very simple set up and it will be able to alert the owner if it has a tank leak too.
