Ebay venting

I put up for auction a pair of headlight bezels off my 1967 Nova. I listed them in Very Good condition and started the bid at $50.00.

I took 4 very good pictures front and back of the bezels and paid extra to have the pictures supersized.

Keep in mind that Classic Industies has them for $89.95 each.

I get one bid on them matching the no reserve opening bid ($50.00) and subsequently that was the selling price.

I give the winning bidder a $8.00 shipping quote. So the winning bidder Paypals me $58.00. So far so good. This is where it gets interesting......

The actual price of shipping was $15.85 + $2.98 for bubble wrap. After all the fees (Ebay and Paypal) and postage, I walked away with just over $33.00

Today the guy receives the bezels. I get an email from him stating that one of the bezels is pitted and that he wants a full refund.

He questioned my "Very Good" condition in the auction and that is the basis of his refund query.

Please give me some advice as to what to do. He is threatening to leave me my first bad feedback on over 100 transactions.

Let 'em send them back, give 'em a refund, and relist them, but with the correct shipping amount. Sometimes it happens, you have to take the knock. Sucks, but what can you do?

I would give him a refund minus shipping cost. He will be stuck with the same shipping cost back to you, this might change his mind about sending them back.

Were the pictures good enough to see the pitting that he is complaining about?

In my honest opinion, the pictures were a very good representation of what he recieved.

Even if they were not, he asked no questions, asked for additional photos, etc.

What I emailed him was that I would refund the money ($50) minus the "real shipping" costs ($18.83 minus the $8 he paid me). SO the refund would be $39.17, and he pays an additional $15.85 in postage to send them back to me.

I think that is very, VERY fair.

What ticks me off is that this guy thought he was getting $200 bezels for $50 + $8 shipping. That is not what I was selling OR emplying.

Terms like good, nice,excellent are subject to different peoples opinions so I try not to use them in EBAY auctions for used items. Just describe and post pics of anything that makes the item not new.

I also offer full refund if they want to pay for return shipping for any reason and state that in the auctions. People pay more on average with a policy like that written in the auction. I only had one ruturn (winner decided he just didn't want the item)in hundreds of auctions and have a 100% rating. I've probably made waaay more on the auctions because of my return policy than it cost to ship that one guy the piece. We're all car guys and are just having fun! Don't let one person spoil your day. Ebay will refund you on the EBAY fees and relist.

You're complaining over a few bucks lost to shipping? In the future specify no-returns. If the buyer thinks they're such garbage, they can resell them.

I tried selling a couple of notebooks I have (listed them for sale here)

Apparently everyone in Nigeria is dying for a notebook computer, because out of 8 auctions/relists, not a single winner was legitimate.

I had $200 in eBay Final Value Fees and listing fees that I had to try get refunded. eBay refused to refund $60 of the fees, citing that I had used their services to list, and that they don't have any control over who bids.

eBay is a joke. - at least for electronics it is.
