GMPP 350ci 250hp crate engine for turbo application?

Would the GMPP 350/250hp crate engine work well for a turbo application? What would it's limitations be? The compression ration is 8.5:1 and the cam specs look good for boost (based on my far-from-expert opinion after reading "Maximum Boost" by Corky Bell).

probably be fine for mild boost. Problem is boost is addictive, and the cast pistons, likely cast crank, stock heads will not allow a lot of boost.

OK, scratch that. Apparently the 350/290hp has the same compression ratio of 8.5:1.

What does mild boost mean? Do you mean less than 8lbs?

yes, 6-8 psi is what I would consider mild.

ive looked into this as well, and came to the aforementioned conclusion.. 8-9 pounds max, this equates to arround 440 Hp, but i found that a boost ready SBC kit from PAW was almost the same money as the GMPP and that way you are running a forged bottom end putting youy max boost in the 15-20 pound range and power potential beyond reason..

cam choice has two schools, and corkys suggestions are alittle in the old school camp... now adays many run what is in efect a good high performance N/A cam with big lobe seperation and reverse pattern, this makes same power at less boost, and more power at same boost as old school "mild" turbo grinds...

id order the engine from PAW and get a cam in the 230 range with 116 deg LS and shorter exhaust to promote spool.. (and get a roller while you are at it) also aluminum heads... will give you alittle more cooling allowing more boost = more power

      thats my 0.02$

i have a thread on lateral.g of a twin tubo project i did this winter (called winter turbo poject) it uses cast log manifolds from schwartz and they work awesome
