      II Much news

Last night, I drove up to a private alignment shop in Orange City (about 30 miles away) who's owner is a driving instructor at Sebring. He does race alignments in the evenings after he closes the shop down for "retail" customers.

With the help of a local stock car racer (who brought his scales), we set up the springs, did a front end alignment, and adjusted the rear to get the car square.

Numbers: 48% front, 52% back. (exactly as Katz predicted)
      Corners are 50/50.

Total weight (less driver, 1/2 tank of fuel): 3305 lbs. Driver weight: too much (to coin a phrase). Loaded weight with driver: 3503. My race diet begins today.

I'm trying to get to a local autoX this week or next, then it's Road Atlanta!

John, congratulations on the car. I'd seen a few recent posts, but haven't had time to respond: you're in good hands though. I was a bit surprised to see the weight, nothing diabolical by any means, but I thought it'd be a good amount lighter. Still fore/aft distribution is outstanding, once you get her sorted out, she outta be really, really fun. Don't expect it all to just "happen overnight," no car comes out of the box perfect, and this is where the really important stuff happens (well, it was ALL really important, but you know what I mean).

Enjoy the car, and the journey.

Considering all the suspension and metal work...that thing is light. Great job. That thing will be a little Tazmanian Devil on the track.

I just aligned my car today.. small world ;)

My weight (at the handy truck scale) was

      3340 with a full tank (20 gallons)
      1700 on the front wheels
      1640 on the rear wheels

That's without my heavy ass in the car. lol

Glad to see you're getting the car done and sorted out. I call dibs on a ride!

Thanks all! I need to put the rear sway bar back on, then I'm ready for action.

Chris ... no invite yet. I'm planning on being there. Can't wait!

Mark, I was hoping for a smaller number too. Sigh. The scales don't lie. The car is insulated, dyna-matted, and carpeted. It's got a stereo with sub-woofer and a back seat. Plus a 2x4x.125 tube chassis with nothing removed to account for it (full cowl, package tray, rocker panels, full inner fenderwells, etc). The 12 point cage, 9 inch Ford rear, are all weight adders. So 3300 lbs it is.
