May Kevin Davis rest in piece. God needed a pilot; I guess?

The Blue Angles were supposed to leave South Carolina and do some stunts here in Louisville; at our Derby opening Thunder Over Louisville Airshow/Fireworks. He flew the number 6 jet, my Son, who is only three years old, has the number 6 jet painted on his wall. With 14 other various types, copters, jets, Space Shuttle........ Anyway, I told Brandon that morning that the Blue Angles were coming to the air show (we were on the 17 floor of the Humana Building. BOX SEATS for a F-22 show!!! That Plane is off the CHART!)

At the time; I was thinking I shouldn't have told Brandon, because I just had a feeling they might not make the show. I had no idea that it was that kind of feeling.

Brandon was very upset; too say the least. More upset about the Pilot leaving this world than the planes not showing up.

I remember seeing the Blue Angles at the Beaufort Air Show when I was a child. They were amazing.

I have a personal connection to this one. One of my best friends from high school was a Navy pilot, and died in a carrier accident. When we were seniors, his dad was assigned command of the Blues.

"MATHEW T. MONEYMAKER ’92, of San Diego, Calif.; Nov. 14, 1999, at the age of 29. A lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, he died when the Navy S-3B Viking electronic surveillance plane he was piloting crashed in the Persian Gulf seconds after launching off the carrier USS John F. Kennedy near Iraq. The plane was scheduled to fly a routine refueling operation. He was one of two fallen aviators on the flight. The other was navigator Lt. Michael Meschke. Moneymaker was on his second deployment as a member of the VS-32 Maulers, having spent almost three years in the squadron. His father, Patrick Moneymaker, is a retired rear admiral who once was a commander of the famous Blue Angels precision flying team. Mathew Moneymaker graduated from high school in the Central Valley farming town of Lemoore before studying engineering at USC, where he was active in Navy ROTC and competed on the USC swim team from 1988 to 1992. Immediately after completing his degree, he signed up for Navy flight school in Pensacola, Fla. Besides his parents, Patrick and Carol, he is survived by three sisters, Kimberly, Sara and Rebecca; one brother, Jonathan; and his fiancée, Josephine Old. Rebecca and Jonathan currently attend USC. Family and friends have established a memorial scholarship in Mat’s name at USC. The Mathew Moneymaker Memorial Scholar-ship will be awarded each year to the male or female USC swimmer who best typifies the academic achievement, character and team-leading spirit Mat personified while a member of the swim team.
